4.5Yunnan Shaxi Ancient Town(291 reviews) - Perfect place for Chinese New Year Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas • Scenic Walking Areas
We were here for Chinese New Year eve and the atmosphere was lovely, with lots of people on the streets setting off firecrackers, children playing and fireworks. I've been to many ancient towns in China, and this was one of my favourites. There are some really quaint bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, and lovely mountain views. Would recommend staying a night here, as the atmosphere in the evening is excellent. There are plenty of hotels/hostels inside the town. Entry is free. The village is located in between Lijiang and Dali. You may wish to combine with a trip to Shibaoshan (石宝山), just 14km away. Name in Chinese: 沙溪古镇See more..
4.5Blue Moon Valley(281 reviews) - A hike in nature Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Mountains • Scenic Walking Areas
We took a bus from Lijiang Ancient City for 15 RMB and it took us to the foot of the mountain. Then we took the bus from there up to the Blue Moon Valley. The place was breath-taking. The colour of the water was amazingly stunning. We did not go up the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as we heard that there was no snow at this time of the year. The Blue Moon Lake was already worth the trip. As it was rainy season, we had brought along our raincoat. It rained and stopped, rained and stopped. We walked around the lake, walking on the jungle side was a very interesting experience. Because of the wet weather, different species of flora and fungi could be spotted along the way.See more..
4.0Shika Snow Mountains(73 reviews) - What you need Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Observation Decks & Towers • Scenic Walking Areas
We went in July, so this will be very different for those traveling when there is snow. 1. Get a driver who will take you for 40 RMB and get you a discount ticket for 200 RMB 2. Bring your own windbreaker and coat. Those red ones they rent look disgusting. 3. Sunscreen, we got burnt even with it. 4. If you think you need oxygen, buy it in the city for 25 RMB a large canister. Don't listen to people saying that the city-bought oxygen is lower quality. 5. Go in the morning. Large groups of tourists come over from the national park and grasslands in the afternoon. 6. There is some, but limited, food options in the mid-level and upper level areas. 7. If you are worried about not being able to physically climb, there is no climbing involved. Apparently there is a footpath for those who want to climb, but I do not know anything about it.See more..
4.0Stone Forest(31 reviews) - Make sure not to miss the Museum Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
This unique scenery is really worth a look if you are in Kunming (about 1 h 30 to get there by car). It is quite crowded at the entrance but it is possible to enjoy the landscape in quieter places in you move deeper in the forest. Its museum isn't well advertised but definitely worth a visit, I especially enjoyed the section with the precious stones and the ones dedicated to the dinosaurs.See more..
