What you need

We went in July, so this will be very different for those traveling when there is snow. 1. Get a driver who will take you for 40 RMB and get you a discount ticket for 200 RMB 2. Bring your own windbreaker and coat. Those red ones they rent look disgusting. 3. Sunscreen, we got burnt even with it. 4. If you think you need oxygen, buy it in the city for 25 RMB a large canister. Don't listen to people saying that the city-bought oxygen is lower quality. 5. Go in the morning. Large groups of tourists come over from the national park and grasslands in the afternoon. 6. There is some, but limited, food options in the mid-level and upper level areas. 7. If you are worried about not being able to physically climb, there is no climbing involved. Apparently there is a footpath for those who want to climb, but I do not know anything about it.

    Be careful of Altitude Sickness
I just returned from visiting the Shika snow mountain in Shangrila, Yunnan, China with an altitude of about 4,500 metres. I went up by cable car and walked another 100 metres to reach the peak. With the wind chill factor, the temperature dropped to 5 degree Centigrade. Fortunately, I was dressed for the cold weather. What I did not expect was the altitude sickness when I stayed overnight at Shangrila, as the air was thin and I woke up several times with dizziness and headache. Fortunately, I brought medication and bought an Oxygen Aerosol which I used during and after the climb. It is advisable to take any Chinese Herbal Tonic to improve oxygen intake one or two days before accenting the mountain
