This oriental pearl (so named by Marco Polo) of a paradise is a great place for a “getaway from the big city” vacation. The air is extremely clean and fresh. The locals are very friendly. Much of the cuisine is about as organic as it comes. The lake is about as pollution-free as it gets. The scenery is fantastic. The Qionghai Lake and Lushan Mountain area in aggregate is about 80 square kilometres. The lake is about 1,510 metres above sea level, and the area has an average annual temperature of 18C. A sign in the area says: “Xichang is called Spring City and Moon City because it is warm in winter and cool in summer, there is full of sunshine, fresh air and bright moon.” Qionghai Lake is located in Sichuan Province, about five kilometres from Xichang City. On the east it is at the foot of Daliangshan Mountain, and on the south to nearby Lushan Mountain. The lake is approximately 31 square kilometres, with an average depth of 14 metres. See more..

The second largest lake ln Jiuzaigou, JZG. It is situated in Shuzheng valley, the northern branch of JZG, at an elevation of 2315m and a depth reaching 12 m. According to legend, a Tibetan Lama rode a rhinoceros to the banks of the lake and was so absorbed by the beauty of the lake that he rode his rhinoceros right into the lake, giving the Rhinoceros Lake its name. Absolutely beautiful place, better than the pictures give it credit for. Would recommend staying in one of the hotels close to the park entrance, then taking a car or walking the 15 minutes to the entrance for when it opens (7am). Most tourists take the shuttle bus up to the top of the park and then walk down. For something resembling tranquility I would recommend skipping this and walking up to the centre of the park via the boardwalks. From the 'tourist centre' you can take the shuttle bus up to either of the lakes at the top of the park and then walk down (although this is where you will meet the droves of tourists). The park closes at 5pm so would recommend taking the bus back down to the entrance at 4.30pm. Fantastic experience, utterly breathtakingly beautiful. 10/10. See more..

I was in Daying for an official visit. From outside, The Hotel Sun City Holiday Hotel looks like any other huge hotel. But the moment you step inside, it's like being transported back to the Arabian Nights.... .The rooms, absolutely stunning with good view of the outdoor pool. Free Wifi too... they had good selections of TV channels, a few in English. Daying city is nearby, within walking distance, but taxis is available. Unfortunately, the staffs and folks here do not speak much English, so communication can be quite a problem. Food, mostly Chinese cuisine and if you go downtown, there is quite a good row of shops to do shopping. See more..

Newly opened line 18 takes you swiftly and efficiently to within a couple of kilometres, but the last bit is still hard work. Your choices - there are special buses from the station. You could take number 11 to the lake. You could take a shared bike, but beware the route is quite undulating and passes through a lot of construction areas. Once there you can pay 10¥ to take a short ferry to flower island, for a bit of a photographic opportunity. Worth a second trip, but might wait till next year. See more..

Luzhou bills itself as the "civilized city" and the commitment the local government has made to parks and green spaces would be a credit to a city three times the size. However the really impressive parks and gardens are on the Yangtze river rather than on Tuojiang which is smaller and more densely developed. So after appreciating the grandeur of the amphitheater, catch a taxi or take an hour's walk across town and sample the gardens and open spaces along the city's Yangtze border. See more..

The lake is great and fun on the bamboo rafts. However, the main attraction here is the path that runs around the side of the mountain. There are restaurants and villages suspended 300 metres into the void. It is a 5km walk and is worth finding. Spending a day wandering around the bamboo is also a day not wasted. You have to take a taxi to get here, but it's nice place to spend few hours. If you take the boat (2yuan) across the lake, you'll get to see really nice carvings and a temple. It's really worth spending those extra 2 yuan, because that's the best part of this place. The worst part is the fact, that they have there 3 monkeys in cages...It rains on the monkeys, the monkeys can't sit anywhere else but on the bars...they looked quite miserable. I suppose this lake might be pretty ugly in winter(early spring/late fall), because the most beautiful part are blooming lotuses. It's so so beautiful. There are benches around the lake, restaurants,... it's a nice place to rest and enjoy nice weather. Nearby is a quite big temple complex and London's Tower Clock looking tower. See more..
