  2. 4.0 Kuanzhai Alley (1.678 reviews)
    - Good and affordable food and entertainment!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    Kuanzhai Alley image
This is one of the must visit places for tourists visiting Chengdu. We came on a Friday afternoon and even then, it was bustling with people. I would recommend getting there by public transport as it is not easy to find parking. The place is packed with eateries and souvenir shops. Chengdu is famous for its street food culture and this will be a good place to give it a try. There are also many Teahouses serving Chinese tea and finger food. Here, you should also be able to catch the popular Sichuan cultural performances, including the popular opera, the art of Changing Face. As you walk around the alleys, you will also catch some people offering ear cleaning services for around 60 rmb. See more..
  3. 4.0 Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street (600 reviews)
    - Must Do Busy Area
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street image
The area has a metro station in the middle of it and is close to another must see area of Tai Koo Li. We also walked to the Anshun Bridge from here. The restaurants in this area can be quite overpriced but it is a very cool area to check out with cool displays, tall buildings, shops and the giant panda on IFS. The area is near impossible to get in and out of by Didi after 3 pm so do plan for metro or expect a long wait time. We found the area quite walkable and walked back to our hotel from here. There are some very pricey restaurants but there are some cheap Xiao Mian and other noodle options on the side streets. We spent 21 RMB on a few good bowls in the area. See more..
  4. 4.5 E'meishan Jinding Scenic Resort (531 reviews)

    E'meishan Jinding Scenic Resort image
We reached this place with difficulty as it was winter and it was freezing with snow on the ground and slippery stairs/steps. Please bring enough winter clothing, snow boots, scarf and gloves. The golden buddha was very impressive and we feel that this is a place that was worth to visit. See more..

The Ancient city of Langzhong has one of the biggest areas of old towns in China and probably all over the world. Very well preserved, the wooden buildings are home to shops selling traditional products like Vinegar, silk worms snacks and so much more , and real home for the old Langzhong inhabitants. 8. 4.5 Panda Valley (79 reviews)
    - Beautiful, peaceful,clean,ecological
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Panda Valley image
So its a bit if a journey to get here, but as the newer baby brother of the Chengdu park it is well worth the effort. An easy stroll for all ages up the valley, frequent rest points and all the grounds are well managed. Pandas look happy and well looked after. The red pandas have a huge area to run free in. Visitors can walk through but if you are not so steady on your pins beware the path is super uneven. Top of the valley is a recently restored Qing dynasty temple. Half way up is a good coffee shop. Only 55¥ to enjoy, not over commercialized, the gifty shops are outside. See more..
  9. 4.5 Hailuogou Scenic Resort (74 reviews)
    - Hailuogou Glacier, Sichuan, China
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Valleys
    Hailuogou Scenic Resort image
It is all depend on weather........if you arrived with a cloudy weather, do extend your stay. Worth to go where you can walk on the glacier without a guide or glacier tools like other countries. The sunshine is very special where you can see the mountain in red color for a few minutes........depend on weather. The hotel management is very poor, do not expect anything although with star rated. Don't expect good food as well. Make sure you stay inside the park for the sunshine view. See more..
  10. 4.0 Pingle Ancient Town (61 reviews)
    - Worth a trip when you are in Chengdu
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Pingle Ancient Town image
Pingle is a nice little town just two hours by bus from Chengdu. Perfect to escape the crowds for one or two days. We visited the old town for a day and went to the Bamboo park (竹海) on the other. We were here on a weekend in October, which we can recommend. Due to the closed shops and the abandoned theme park, we got the feeling that Pingle used to be very touristy. Right now, we have experienced Pingle as a quite small town with nice people and good food. See more..
  11. 4.0 Xinduqiao Town (56 reviews)
    - Great hiking
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Xinduqiao Town image
Good hiking routes nearby - ask locals for the route up through the forest and down past the temple. One of the best wild hiking trails I've tried in China. After hiking, recommend a coffee at 小胡子咖啡. The town itself is pretty basic - laid out along a busy main road - but with mountains all around, who cares? See more..
  12. 4.0 Xiling Snow Mountain Scenic Resort (43 reviews)
    - Ski experience for those who want to know more in English. Dec 2013
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Ski & Snowboard Areas
Xiling Snow Mountain Scenic Resort image
This place is not for skiers. Powder snow for 3 days straight as it was snowing. Visibility only from early morning till noon. Lifts not open as they said not enough people. Only magic carpet. Ridiculous as the snow was powdery. Ski equipment is very lousy. Skis provided are not tuned, waxed or even fitted properly. As we were the only skiers and early at 830am their service was good and accommodative in changing multiple skis and boots. As price is all inclusive no point to bring your own. Price to try skiing is pretty cheap. Look at my photos with the price. Scenery is good. Had a snowy Christmas. Food is really bad. 90% not skiers and dangerous for children as most people here cannot control themselves. But overall great for family who want to experience a snowy Christmas. See more..

If you hike it will take you hours, or just take a bus, cable car and there is still walking after that. But when you get to the top it is worth it. - Good walk up to 2200m
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Beach & Pool Clubs
Qiong Hai Lu Mountain Scenic Area image
Nice enough walk up through some Taoist temples and nunnery and then onto the peak. The views are good, you don't need to walk all the way up to get the best views. The steps are on the small side too small to use each one but too big to do two at a time - legs still aching as a result, also note you start the walk a mile high and so you need to factor that in. Monkeys aren't really bothered unless you feed them once someone does they go a bit crazy so just keep your wits about you. See more..

  23. 3.5 Zhaohua Ancient City (12 reviews)
    - If there wasn't the Han dynasty museum...
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Game & Entertainment Centers
    Zhaohua Ancient City image
...the I would rate it poor I guess. In this ancient town you have only one way how to visit the sights (city walls, Confucian temple, old examination hall and one other thing), you have to buy one ticket (58yuan full price) to all of these places, you can't buy a ticket just to one of these places...So we didn't bother paying this money... There are many shops selling various junk (as in any other "ancient" town in China), few restaurants and honestly not that much to see. The best part is definitely the Han dynasty museum, which is trully great (and for free, you just need to give them your personal details like name and passport number) - many pottery, jade and copper finds. If there wasn't this museum I would be really annoyed that I went to this ancient town. The worst part is the transportation - the bus from Nanhe bus station in Guangyuan leaves once it's full, so we waited for more than an hour (the same with the bus on the way back), so I recommend to get to the bus station quite early... See more..

Jinsha River First Beach in Sichuan image
Title on Tripadvisor is misleading. Where Yangtze is still called Jinsha is where you find this great viewpoint (you can buy tickets right there), they also have good (Western) toilets inside the building. Two viewpoints total where you can walk some steps and look right at the bend and mountains behind. Great for taking pictures1 See more..

    Jinkouhe Grand Canyon image
See more..

  33. 4.0 Stone Carving Wall (5 reviews)
    - Worth a walk to.
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
The park is located a walking distance north from the centre of the town. Access can be confusing as the main entry is on the opposite side of the the road to what seems like an entry gate. Go down the stairs into a bit rough looking underpass and it will deliver you to the park. There are also entries from the riverside and one from the North, but they are not easy to find, unless someone guides you. The park on weekends is quite busy but stick to the wall with the carvings and you will find several small "shops" offering music classes, calligraphy classes and tea ceremony classes. Step right in and you will be welcome by whoever is teaching and practicing there. In from of the main entry you'll find interesting stone totem poles representing the Chinese zodiac. There are several attractions for the kiddies there as well. See more..

    Luocheng Ancient Town image
A friend told us to visit Luocheng Ancient Town if we visit Leshan Big Buddha and we did. It is not touristy and is the place to watch local people (mostly elderly) chat and play chinese card in teahouses. The ancient town is old, quaint and build in the shape of a boat. We people watched and drank chinese tea at one of the teahouse. It is a worthwhile visit if you are interested in real authentic old town. We understand there is more than one route from Leshan Big Buddha to Luocheng Ancient Town. Our inexperience driver took one that ran through 'countless' bumpy potholes and the journey lasted 1.5 hr! Unfortunately, we did not have the name of the route we took. See more..

  39. 4.5 Wenchuan Special Tourist Area (3 reviews)
    - Beautiful mountains & scenery, & primitive villages
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wenchuan Special Tourist Area image
This is a place of beautiful natural scenery. Ten years ago (2008), Wenchuan County of Aba was destroyed by an 8.0-magnitude earthquake. Much of Muli County is a place that has changed little over the past 100 years, albeit, many people wear modern-day footwear and clothing. Large stocks of corn are strapped onto horses for transportation. Food supplies are carried in weaved baskets carried by horses (maybe mules), sometimes along very dangerous mountain paths, where a wrong step can lead to a deadly fall. Some say that Muli County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, is the poorest place in China. The villages (many of which are on the side of a cliff and difficult to get to) here are very primitive, and they have little correspondence with the rest of China. It's almost on a cliff. While visiting one village, the Naxi people held various activities and danced Guo Zhuang. The locals here seem happy. They all greet us with a smile. The monuments dedicated to the 2008 earthquake are nice, but I find the local villages, mountain roads/pathways, and people to be of much greater interest. To visit the area, one needs a least a tour guide or a Chinese speaking person. Also, be prepared for one-star, or lower, sleeping accommodations. See more..

Beautiful little tea plantation set in the mountains on the way from Chengdu to Leshan. The gift shop/cafe/parking lot one side of the hill was buzzing with visitors but there was almost no one actually walking the plantation which made it a very serene and refreshing pit stop. There are cabins for rent on the roadside of the hill - to be honest the view to the parking lot isn't my idea of romance but could be a good base for hiking in the surrounding areas. No admission fee, so if you're en route, definitely worth a stop and quick ramble around. See more..

    - Malerisches altes Städtchen mit gutem Zweck
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks

See more..

If you like those fancy "ancient towns" for tourists then you will hate this place. If you hate those places, you will probably love it here. It isn't touristy at all. I think we were the only tourists there. We spent there few hours just walking around. It's just so interesting to see all thouse little houses which I was amazed that were still standing. People just grow few veggies there, raise few chickens... We peeked in their homes, went to a cemetary... It was amazing. There is one Buddhist temple and also a Muslim mosque, or at least I think it's a mosque, since it was a temple of Hui minority. I would totally go again! See more..
