4.0Sichuan Museum(189 reviews) - A mix of modern & old artifacts & other exhibits Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Speciality Museums
I mostly went to see the exhibits and artifacts of Ancient China. many of the ancient artifacts were likely excavated over the years, and maybe partially restored. Most of the information displayed beside the artifacts was only in Chinese. Thus, if you come, it would be helpful to have a guide or friend who can read Chinese and provide information on what you are viewing.See more..
4.5Guanghan Sanxingdui Museum(181 reviews) - Authentic Alien Art Friday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
This museum might be a little tricky to find but once you're there they are ready for you. Two main exhibition halls house the fascinating history and artifacts of the Shu people who were super good at manufacturing metal and earthenware articles and were indigenous to this part of Sichuan. Visit here and come face to face with alien art! I would recommend the hand held Nintendo switchesque exhibit guide. A little fiddly to use but a mine of information that you might otherwise miss.See more..
4.5Chengdu Museum (Old Hall)(54 reviews) - If you like history and arts this museum is a must visit place in Chengdu Speciality Museums
This museum is a must see in Chengdu. The artifacts exposed are dated back to the 4-5000 years BC. The museum has the largest collection of ancient artifacts in China. The entrance is free. You will spend there at least 4-5 hours. There is also a large exposition of puppets. Puppet theaters were and still remain very popular in China. And in this museum you will see all possible kinds of puppets ever used in theaters. I think kids will mostly enjoy this section. There is a some nice cafe on the 4th floor where you can have rest and drink a cup of coffee. Btw the museum is organizing different exhibitions from time to time. When we visited the museum, there was an exposition of European artists of the 17-20th cc. So we were really lucky. The ticket's price was 80rmb. Among the works exposed we could see a couple of works of Matisse, Van Gogh, Modigliani and Dali. YaySee more..

4.5Jianchuan Museum(26 reviews) - Excellent Museum Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Speciality Museums
This is the said to be the largest private museum in China, and is mostly dedicated to the Second Japanese Chinese War. We call it World War II. The museum is spread out over a large number of acres and is comprised of around 15 buildings. The museum is excellent with pictures and artifacts from this time period. I went specifically to view the Flyng Tiger's Building. It is excellently done and did not disappoint me or my family. One other building is dedicated to the victims of the 2008 Earthquake. Thousands died, including many thousands of children. Looking through this building was very emotional, seeing all the damage and destruction caused by the quake. Also the pictures of injured children and adults was very moving. Excellent day trip from Chengdu.See more..
5.0Sanhe Classic Car Museum(26 reviews) - Mil from the Gong Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
We stumbled on this having seen the sign from the motorway. And what a fantastic find it was. Cheap to enter, and full of beautifully restored cars, we spent an entrancing half day there (but for time constraints we'd have stayed longer!). A bonus was our volunteer guide (a local who studied in the USA) who was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. A must-do when visiting Chengdu. PS And I'm not a petrol head! See more..

4.0Liu's Manor(14 reviews) - A little bit of history... Speciality Museums
Our plan was to spend the day in Xiling Snow Mountain. Unfortunately, upon reaching our destination we could see that there was no snow at the snow mountain. Thus, we decided instead of wasting the day, we headed to Liu's Manor Museum. The is a fee charged for this attraction. The manor and courtyard is well maintained and it houses antique pieces from the days of chinese landlord Liu Wencai. Pictures and texts documents the life of Liu Wencai. Worth the visit only if you are passing the area. Adjacent to the manor museum is the streets of ancient town Anren. Little touristy shops selling odds and ends, food and in the tea shops groups of people playing mahjong.See more..

I was not so much interested in the museum, but rather in the building itself, a former 18th c tea house. The architecture is remarkable, well preserved and the gilded wood carvings of the inner courtyard are stunning. It has also a very pleasant and well kept inner garden. This is situated on the way between Dazu and Leshan and is worth every minute if you can convince your driver and your guide to add the 14 odd extra miles. Zigong is also a very peaceful and interesting little town. I loved the visit.See more..

Brought here by the local tourism body after our trip to the leshan DaFo. Transportation was free and we needed to pay our admission fee which was 90rmb. Free guided tour and a history of the ebony wood and its use in Chinese history was explained. Overall an eye opener. At the end of the tour which lasted 1.5hrs, the tourism board brought us back to the HSR station for our trip back to chengdu, again free transport given. Not a bad arrangement which saved us the hassle of going around looking for the venue etc.See more..
5.0GuBoXuanGuan ChenLieGuan(1 review) - Hard to get to, but incredibly unique. Speciality Museums • Historic Sites • Religious Sites
I've never been to a place quite like this. One, the fact that it's essentially a cemetery makes it unique as a "travel destination", but the real thing is the proximity of it to the village. It's so striking to see people going about their daily lives literally in the shadow of these hanging coffins; if you want to drive from Luobiao to another of the small villages in the area, you HAVE to pass that. Think of that, and ponder the implications of it! Practically speaking, you have to take a bus from Chengdu to Gong County (Gongxian), then from Gong County to Luobiao village. It's about a 8-9 hour trip. You'll have to stay in the big hotel in town and then go the next day. I'd advise walking there - taking the same road that passes the police station you go to in order to "sign in" upon arrival. It's 3km or less to get to the hanging coffins. About a 30-minute walk or so. It's 20 yuan to get in, and that includes the museum. I'd say do the little museum first. No English, no photos, but they have one of the coffins in there as well as a few photos and a reconstruction of what the Bo people would have looked like. The site itself is one or two cliff faces, as well as a cave that doesn't go back too far. It's not a huge place, but the view is fantastic, and imagining how the Bo people must have hung the coffins is mindblowing. It's really something special. I'd say it's DEFINITELY worth a visit. Bring water - can't buy it or any snacks anywhere around. Also, if you don't speak Chinese or have a Chinese person with you to help you out, forget coming here - nobody speaks any English at all. Please take this into consideration before coming. My friends and I all speak Chinese, so we were alright, but I cannot imagine how someone could go there without the language. This is deep China.See more..
4.0Luzhou Museum(1 review) - Excellent introduction to to two thousand years of Chinese history from a local perspective Friday: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM Speciality Museums This is a top quality museum, more elaborate and sophisticated than one would expect to find in a regional center. Exhibits are both varied and entertaining and include dioramas, cutting-edge three dimensional recreations of historic events and physical objects. English language texts introduce the major sections of the museum and make the history of Luzhou and the surrounding Sichuan province accessible to visitors not comfortable in written Chinese.See more..
4.0Han Dynasty Cliff Tombs Museum(1 review) - Unique Han Dynasty history near Chengdu Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums The Jiangkou Han Dynasty Cliff Tombs Museum (Jiangkou Han Yamu Bowuguan) is a great place for those interested in the ancient history of the Chengdu Plain and those who want to get off the beaten path. It is located in Jiangkou Village, just 3 kilometers from Pengshan City. The museum has a collection of Han Dynasty tomb artifacts, and miscellaneous pieces from other dynasties. Most interesting are the cliff tombs themselves, two of which visitors can enter. These tombs, carved out of the cliffs along the Min River, are a unique feature of Han-era Sichuan history. Admittance is 25 RMB, and that includes a personal tour guide. The guide speaks only Chinese, but there are English explanatory signs here and there throughout the museum. To see the small museum itself takes about 30-40 minutes. To make a day of it, one might combine the museum with a look around Pengshan city, which seems to have several old streets (I didn't explore them myself), and/or a nearby Daoist mountain. To get to the museum, take a bus from Xinnanmen Bus Station to Pengshan (20 RMB, one hour), then a cab to the museum, or Pengshan bus No. 4 to the East Gate, and transfer to a bus to Jiangkou. Just say "bowuguan" (museum) everyone will know where you are going.See more..
