    Baoguo Temple image
For those who travel to Emaishan to undertake a pilgrimage there is no greater starting point than Baoguo Temple! Nestled against the foot of the great mountain it's various prayer halls rest quietly behind the temples entrance.. Dark carved wooden reliefs are flanked by red columns, Large ancient bronze Buddhas sit in sublime repose within the gompas.. Adorned with resplendent brocades they reside amidst swirling plumes of acrid sandlewood incense which curl in plumes drifting up into crafted rafters overhead.. There, tiny swallows flit about .. The lulling sweet sounds of mantras float in on the breezes! An afternoon there creates a wonderous trance like effect on the mind! All in all if ever the Pure Lands were to be found in this world, then surely this is a gateway to that place! See more..

  3. 4.0 Erwang Temple (26 reviews)
    - Dujiangyan Scenic Area
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins • Architectural Buildings
    Erwang Temple image
We took a Didi to the entrance area (type in "Erwang Temple" on Didi) and then spent two hour walking this very scenic area. First up to Yulei pavilion, then walk the area until we arrived at Erwang temple. Almost felt like a jungle temple and reminded us of Cambodia. Lots of greem, historic relics and statues to check out. We then walked across the Anlu suspension bridge and did the irrigation system on our own before taking a train back to Chengdu. We spent roughly 4 hours total exploring Dujiangyan scenic area. The best tip to really do it this way around and NOT start with irrigation system. Less crowds i.e. when you want to walk the bridge! We didn't book any tour and were told that irrigation system tour was nothing too special... so if you can, recommend to explore on your own! See more..
  4. 4.0 Anren Ancient Town (16 reviews)
    - Amazing place, really brings the history of the past 150 years to life!
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins
    Anren Ancient Town image
I have been to many places in China which celebrate different dynasties, but what is different here is the whole place isn't ancient, it is just old. This town illustrates the era of the Chinese Republic. Built 80 or so years ago, in an affluent area of Sichuan, the so called ancient street celebrates in a more authentic way than say Jinli in Chengdu or Ciqikou in Chongqing. What we have here is a shopping street, without the modern day brands, We have a huge variety of street food as well as restaurants in buildings that have changed very little since the 1930's. There is a tram to take you from here to some older buildings that are mainly museums. The area is delightful, take your time, spend a day or more. I will be back, as it is an easy day trip from Chengdu (take a bus from Chadianzi bus station, only 14 yuan each way!) See more..

The scenic spot is one of many in the Irrigation System. It is located on the west side of Fulong Temple and is often missed when visiting. It is shaded and cooler because of the flowing river. A nice place for a few photos with the wife, girlfriend, or children. See more..

  15. 4.5 Anyue Stone Carvings (5 reviews)
    - Not easily accessible, but worth the effort
Ancient Ruins • Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues
    Anyue Stone Carvings image
These carvings were made in the side of mountains beginning in the 6th century and continuing into the 11th. Given the length of time they have been exposed to the elements, they are incredibly well preserved, many with paint still clearly visible. The workmanship is exceptional, especially the Guanyin at Pilu, an iconic rendering of which serves as Anyue's county/city logo. The problem for most travelers is that the carvings are widely distributed and require transport for convenient access. Anyue is 2.5 hours from Chengdu. I hired a car and driver for 1300RMB, left Chengu at 6:30 and returned at 21:00. We covered four sites with only a short break for a bowl of noodles for lunch: Pilu, Huayen, Thousand Buddha, and Yuanjue. There are at least two more sites, but there was not enough light to get to them. The sites were largely deserted in winter. See more..

  18. 3.5 Huanhou Ancestral Hall (5 reviews)
    - beautiful but rather abandoned
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Ancient Ruins • Architectural Buildings
    Huanhou Ancestral Hall image
When we went (Saturday afternoon) it seemed almost closed, there were just some men playing cards and drinking tea, lady sweeping, but all exhibitions or whatever were closed, so we just walked around the courtyard and that was it. From outside and inside it's beautiful. Notice the decorations from the outside - it seems kinda like a mosaic or something like that. And inside are beautiful wood works. Really pretty. We didn't pay any entrance fee. And if you walk up the stairs on the left of the Assembly hall and then turn right and keep going, you'll get to a local market which is also interesting. See more..
  19. 3.5 Wangye Temple (5 reviews)
    - Well worth the trip to Zigong
Ancient Ruins • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Wangye Temple image
Whilst some may seek out the Dinosaur museum or Salt works, I journeyed to Zigong just for this very tea house, and I am so glad I did. It is as good as the Lonely Planet makes out. Hanging over the Fuxī River laze on the terraces looking out to Fazàng Temple, or base yourself in the inner courtyard built around a koi-filled pond under magnolia. The tea is high quality, the staff friendly and happy to communicate with expressions, and the place is full of locals playing cards, gossiping and so forth. A peaceful highlight of my entire time in China. See more..

    Foye Cavern image
See more..

See more..

I suppose this lake might be pretty ugly in winter(early spring/late fall), because the most beautiful part are blooming lotuses. It's so so beautiful. There are benches around the lake, restaurants,... it's a nice place to rest and enjoy nice weather. Nearby is a quite big temple complex and London's Tower Clock looking tower. See more..

Friday: 8:00 AM - 7:30 PM Ancient Ruins • Religious Sites
    Sleeping Buddha Courtyard image
The site is truly impressive. There is no doubt that the Buddha itself is a masterpiece! But... This review is exclusively about the site management: the site is poorly managed, nearly abandoned. It's a shame. Expect the Giant Buddha, all other statues are simply gone. The pavement is slippery and the parking lot is a disaster when raining. Facilities are not maintained anymore. Since you need almost one hour from An'Yue to reach the site, carefuly think if it's worth your time to go there. Entry fee is from January 2019 on 10 RMB. See more..

    - White Horse Spring Does Not Disappoint

    White Horse Spring image
This was second time I had visited this location, the first while an instructor at Southwest Jiaotong University - Emei Branch in 2008 At the time I was interested mostly in Mengding Mountain as the first plantation of tea cultivated in China. Also as the original location of the panda bears of Sichuan. IN 2008, the site was just a site with a small shack and single caretaker. It was one of the most beautiful sites I had seen with the temple sitting in back of the springs in the backdrop of a beautiful forested mountain. I was taken by the ancient carvings and stone structures not knowing at the time it was a genuine Tang Dynasty location (built under Emperor Zhenguan's reign in AD627). I was anxious to get back to see it when we visited Ya'an again in April 2017. With me was my dear friend and Leshan Artist Ai Yun Hua. He was as anxious to see it for the first time as I was because he was familiar with it's history. The morning we visit the rain had been falling all night and was still coming down relatively hard. We both silently walked around taking pictures. I felt as if Mr. Ai was taking pictures for the expressed purpose of painting the scene in some future masterpiece. Knowing what this place represents to me was exciting but for those just looking at historical sites without knowing its history, it may be just average. Even with the rain (which gave it an interesting look) both Mr. Ai and I were extremely happy with our visit. See more..

Yinbin White Tower Mountain Scenic Resort image
One of my Chinese friend took me here, you can see this tower from anywhere in the city. That's why I really wanted to visit here, taxi dropped us to the road where the climbing Starts for this tower. Climbing is not steep, if you have your own vehicle then you can go little up because road is very well maintained, public transport can't go up, so we decided to go by walk. It took us around 20 minutes to reach the tower, after reaching the tower the scenery was wow, because you can see almost all the city view. And the junction of two rivers. While climbing up you can visit a big temple of Buddha also. Highly recommended for visitors of Yibin. Thanks. See more..

See more..

I'm probably the first foreigner to stepped here at black tower of Yibin. The road to visit there is under construction so it was very difficult for us to get there, the tower is not maintained because surrounding of the tower is still wild. Inside the tower there's a Buddha's photograph. The main thing is that the tower is the top of the mountain, while acceding up you can have a look at whole Yibin city. While coming back to Yibin we took another way that is well constructed. You can also take a motorcycle to get there or to get down. Posting some photos have a look. Thanks. See more..
