This is the river where the Giant Stone Carved Buddha is located. The river is just a vehicle to be able to see the Buddha. There really wasn't much else for us to see on this day. The sky was very overcast and grey. The river is an ugly brown but the Buddha is amazing!!!!!

    Fast but scenic boat ride
    To get the entire view of the ginormous carved Buddha, you have to do the boat ride. The boat ride is very short, it just circles around so you are in front of the Buddha. They do try to get you to purchase their photos and rope off an area for their cameras. You can still take your own group picture but hurry because it is a short ride.

    Not sure I would bother again
    The boats are pretty rough old things, but it didn't sink so I guess they are OK. A lot of time at the Buddha is spent with the boat in a position where you can't take a good photo as it is positioned for their hawkers to take photos. We didn't need, nor we asked to wear lifejackets.
