We were given a walking route by our hostess. We had a great time walking through the beautiful woods. Every few kilometers a to-go shop was open for tea and coffee. Downside of CoVid is you are not allowed to use the bathroom anywhere. A bit busy in this forest area, but still very nice.See more..

4.0Baardwijkse Overlaat(10 reviews) - a different type of nature park Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Baardwijkse overlaat is located between Waalwijk and Drunen and runs along the 'Afwaterings'canal, which used to be vital in the water management of the region. Currently the area is a nice medium size nature park which not so many locals visit so it is always quiet and relaxing to walk around here. There are entry points on either side of the park and you can only get in by foot. There are bushes which bear fruit of the season. Bee hotels can be found here too and there are a few larger lakes surrounded by trees. On the South Western side one can walk along the canal which gives a different view of the area. It's also a nice area to visit in the Winter when there has been snowfall. See more..
Schitterend natuurgebied. Goed bewegwijzerd door Natuurmonumenten. Afwisselend landschap. Veel Schotse hooglanders. Mooie plek om foto's te maken. Ook de weg vanaf de parkeerplaats is mooi. Leuk om over de brug te wandelen. Het gebied is zeker een aanrader. Komen graag nog eens terug.See more..

4.0Rucphense Bossen(5 reviews) - Forest and moor in western Brabant province Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
Beautiful nature near the villages of Rucphen and Schijf, not far from Roosendaal (6 km southwest of Roosendaal railwaystation), 60 km from Rotterdam. The forest and moor area is 12 square kilometers in size and stretches all the way to the Belgian border. There are many hiking trails and a very good bicycle track. The owners of the land are of different backgrounds. Some areas are privately owned and fenced. The military as well uses part of the moor for exercises. Still this is one of the few nature reserves in western Brabant that is big enough to get lost when on foot. Cycled there from Rotterdam in August when the moor was in full bloom. Magnificent.See more..

5.0Oude Buisse Heide(4 reviews) - Roland Holst's gift to the public Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
The poetess and former communist Henriette Roland Holst donated her estate to the public in 1945 (seven years before she died). She lived here with her husband in what is called the Angora farm. Natuurmonumenten is in charge of managing the area. The old 'Buisse' moor is 200 hectares in size and has been exploited by man for centuries. First peat was dug out and transported by small boats through canals like the Turfvaart dug in 1618. Later small farmers settled here, but the soil was of poor quality. Nowadays it is a large varied nature area. There are two major hiking trails. One with blue signs is 12 km, another with red signs is 5 km. Of course to cycle through it, is another option. Many people start at Herberg 't Pannehûske op de Roosendaalsebaan (Achtmaal, gemeente Zundert).See more..
5.0Markdal(3 reviews) - Best cycle option from Breda to Belgium Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
Beautiful riverscape south of Breda towards the border with Belgium at Meersel-Dreef. They restored the old meanders and at places there is thick vegetation. Plant diversity and fauna also improved. A large group of Canadese geese settled in the area near the Mastbos. At Meersel-Dreef where there is the Kapucijner monastery and lots of restaurants, the cycle path continues into Belgium as far as the village of Meer. See more..
The estate dates from 1793 and was established by Frederik van der Wall. Nowadays Natuurmonumenten manages the 100 hectare estate and ensures the old culture landscape stays intact. There are beautiful lanes with tall trees, but also shrubs and farmland. The mansion is built in neoclassicist style and has a charming garden. Hiking trails and cycling routes go through the estate and are linked with those of Oude Buisse heide. Check at the VVV tourist office in Zundert about activities at Wallsteijn and visit options of the mansion and adjoining buildings like the Anna hoeve.See more..

4.0Landgoed Haanwijk(2 reviews) - Walking Along the River Dommel State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
We could park our car near the bridge to the lane of the estate. The castle "Nieuwe Herlaer" looks beautiful but it's a private property. You can walk along the river or just to the "Huis Haanwijk" through a long beautiful lane with leaning trees. At the end of the lane you will find the house ( a bit covered by trees at the front of the house). On each pilars of the gate there is a statue of a rooster. Both the gate and the tea house were closed. Nice walking area.See more..
