  2. 5.0 Wat Thai Dhammaram (7 reviews)
    - Buddhist Centre
    Religious Sites
    Wat Thai Dhammaram image
The Wat Thai Dhammaram is a Buddhist centre located in Waterloo. It is a Thai temple set in a private house with a large garden. The best day to visit is on Sunday, but the centre is open everyday. The resident monk is called Luangpo Wisuddh. He is often accompanied with two or three monks from Thailand or from Belgium. Prayers are made in this temple and meditation is practiced. The traditional Buddhist holidays are also celebrated. Most Westerners drop by on Sunday or with Thai people they know and who are used to come to the centre. If you don't know anyone who can accompany you, I suggest you to call them before you arrive, at least to make sure they are there! See more..
  3. 4.5 Chateau de la Hulpe (375 reviews)
    - Beauty
    Parks
    Chateau de la Hulpe image
It's not a fair review because I grew up in the next town, and to me it's just beautiful. I am a little bias because I grew up in Belgium. My fiancé who had never been there loved it and it was very romantic to walk the grounds with her. See more..
  4. 4.5 Fondation Folon (326 reviews)
    - Delightful museum
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Fondation Folon image
A small museum, but fun from the start. After watching a very short video of Folon drawing a bird, the door of the museum will open automatically and you will enter the imaginative world of Folon. I hardly knew Folon before visiting the museum, but I am a fan now. Such simple but poetical drawings, paintings and sculptures. The location of the museum is also superb, in an old renovated farm in the middle of the beautiful Solvay park. I came by car and it is probably very difficult to get here by public transport. There is also a nice bistro just across the museum. Free to visit if you have a museum-pass. See more..
  5. 4.5 Collegiate Church of Saint Gertrude (150 reviews)
    - Heart of Nivelles
    Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
Collegiate Church of Saint Gertrude image
We enjoyed a visit to the church while staying in Nivelles. We arrived right as a wedding was ending, so we enjoyed watching the bride and groom exit from a distance before walking around the outside and then entering the church. It is very old and quite impressive; apparently it has been mostly rebuilt after damage during the world wars, but it still looks old and was redone in the original style. There was no fee for entering, and we spent about 20 minutes enjoying the views of the inside. It's not as impressive as some cathedrals we've seen, but still worth the stop and the enjoyable location in the heart of Nivelles. See more..

  8. 4.5 Musée de la Ferme d'Hougoumont (51 reviews)
    - The epicentre of the Battle of Waterloo
Thursday: Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Musée de la Ferme d'Hougoumont image
This historic farmhouse, the last authentic witness to the battle on 18 June 1815, accommodates a pioneering multimedia installation that tells the story of the “battle within the battle”. The show combines innovation with respect for memory. Hougoumont Farm was the scene of fierce and deadly fighting. It is located in a forward position that protected the Allies’ right flank, and was where Napoleon’s brother sparked off the battle. What was only supposed to be a diversionary manoeuvre at first became the most violent point of the battle. Throughout the day, the French assaults here were furious but in vain. The main building was burned to the ground. The house we see today is in fact the former gardener’s cottage. See more..

La Grande Abbaye de La Ramee image
I recently attended a meeting here with work. The room was very small with a tiny window and no TV, they said there was no TV to make people socialise in the lounge areas. the food was excellent as was the facilities and grounds, there is a small gym and water/massage beds, did not use either but they are there to be used for no charge. The host was excellent as was the Chef's that gave a small presentation before the meal with the food and wine that we were going to have each night. The snacks in the break times were varied and excellent quality, you need some will power not to eat too much. Great place for a business conference / meeting. See more..

    Musée L image
Quiet, a museum ? Not in Louvain-la-Neuve, where the Musée L makes artworks talk to each other : a Buddha next to a medieval Christ, ancient writings alongside calculating machines... The university museum of UCLouvain, with 20.000 items in its collection, explores some new and unusual encounters that tell us about the world and our humanity. Art works are not the only thing on display: the museum also presents the UCLouvain’s scientific collections. Natural history specimens, archaeological and ethnographic objects and scientific inventions are all on show in 2,600 m² of exhibition space at the heart of a building that is a landmark of modern Belgian architecture. Musée L is not like other museums: it is a place of living dialogue and exciting discovery. See more..
  13. 4.5 Parc de réalité virtuelle Terragamecenter (26 reviews)
    - Great games but ‘terra’ble food rip off
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Parks
Parc de réalité virtuelle Terragamecenter image
We loved the game and everyone had a really good time - suitable for everyone and there were lots of laughs. The downside is the charge of 10€ per person for food and drink - we would’ve expected a bit more than 2 bags of Crisps and 4 bottles of soft drinks from the shop next door. In total we paid 120€ (12 people) for what cost them maximum 10€. The stuff they served should’ve been included... or they could have made a bit more effort. See more..

    Les Jardins d'Aywiers image

For decennia this little summer train makes the joy of lots of people. It is a short and slow circuit, but the enthusiasm of the volonteers in their authentic costumes is absolutely adorable.
