Worths visiting, but be careful of the unreasonably expensive tour, prob cost you RMB400. Ask the hostels or guest houses u stayed for details, if they recommend an expensive one, just leave it.    We went at 9am just in time for door opening ceremony by the "emperor" and his entourage. The ceremony was probably the highlight of the place. Inside the gate, there was an acrobatic show. The shops inside were selling the same stuff that you would find in the Dali Ancient Town. Left the place after 15 minutes of walk-about. Frankly I opine we could give this make-believe place a miss.     This place is beautiful as far as tourist sites go. It’s a very Chinese style forest which means there isn’t a real trail or dirt path to be found. We came at a peak season time which I would never do again. It was so stressful with all the pushing and shoving and lines and etc. If you go I recommend asking a Chinese friend to help you pay for tickets online that are a package deal. We spent way too much paying alacarte. There’s some decent food inside at decent prices so that was a plus. Overall I would go again with friends who hadn’t gone before. See more..

    This was my first visit of three to an ethnic minority village and even if I understood their need for money, I felt a bit like I was at the zoo, which made me uncomfortable. The guided tour is, understandably, only in Chinese (my partner translated some of it) and is so-so but not bad. The walk is short but don't go if you are not able-bodied.     There were four of us who went through the Lao Cai side customs point in about 5 mins. We walked across the bridge and into the Hekou side. I was sweating a lot as I was carrying three backpacks as after Yunnan we were going to Tibet so we had loads of cold clothes. As we walked in the customs officer asked if I was sick so I had to stand on a spot on the floor as she took my temp with a camera.     Situated near the center of Jinghong, it's a nice place to sit and relax in the small shady park on the east side. There are seating areas,food and drinks available from small vendors. Locals come here with their children to use the paddle boats or large inflatables balls to cruise this modest lake. Elders sit and play chess.     なんと博物館が2014年12月31日付けで改装のため閉館になっていた！ショック、昨日ではないか。掃除のおじさんにもクローズだと言われ、しばらく佇んでいると、中から人が出てきた。国籍を聞かれ、日本だと答えると、街を聞かれ、横浜だと答えると「日本人は友達だから特別に入れてあげよう」と中に入れてくれた。掃除のおじさんが灯りを点けてくれ、三輪車の運ちゃんと一緒に歩いていた中国人二人と一緒に中に入る。中には澄江で見つかった貴重な化石が分かりやすく展示されていた。見応えもあったが、それより、日本人は友達だと言って館内にいれてくれたことの方に感激した。電気をつけてくれた掃除のおじさんにお礼を言うと「お礼は彼に言え」とのこと。中に入れてくれた「日本人は友達」と言ってくれたおじさんはこの博物館の責任者だったようだ。思わぬ人情に触れて澄江の街に戻る。 See more..

    This is a pretty waterfall more or less inside Tengchong, so getting there is quick and easy. The day I was there, no entry fee was required, though there may be in high season. Not sure. You can take a short hike down some steep stair to get closer to the waterfalls and the obligatory photo-ops. Not amazing, but worth 30 minutes or 1 hour max. A couple small pavilions in the area as well. Not crowded when I was there, right after Spring Festival. In summary, this is an easy place to add to a day trip itinerary, but not a destination that would justify coming to Tengchong all by itself. See more..

    Visited this temple this afternoon with our tour guide. Additionally the museum provides a guide if you are in groups. Interesting collection of active beehives from hollowed out tree trunks in the courtyard - I have only ever seen this method of bee keeping in Yemen previously. Agricultural tools are on display and then you entre the indoor part of the museum. Mosuo is a matriarchal ethnic group and the museum has photographs of social and spiritual gatherings and implements, ornaments tools are on display. Some of the guide boards are in English, but those that are are perhaps difficult to understand. There is a reconstruction of a house an here a basic introduction is given. The importance of the Mountain God and reverence for the tiger are all part of their spiritual beliefs. I gained some understanding but for clarity would need to read further. The hidden gem of the visit is the textile shop which has so many inexpensive bargains - great for gifts. See more..

    We started our walk at the Anning Spa Retreat. It was a short walk up the hill, well a bit longer than short. We were going to the temple on the Sunday to have lunch with the Monks. It was pleasant walking up the hill, looking out over Anning through the trees. The temple was kinda busy, with many people coming to have lunch there. Not necessarily with the monks but just to have a picnic style lunch. The temple is not that big and there was new building being constructed up the back. Lunch was good and vegetarian.     We went to this place at the recommendation of our taxis tour driver. She said she brings her family to this place on the weekends whenever she can. We visited it after our adventure was cut short by the downpour at Qinglong Canyon. There were not too many people the day we were there because of the heavy rain but we had fun. Many attractions were closed or under renovation such as the dragon slide and pirate ship. They have well equipped and attended men changing area comparable to those in Korean spa in Los Angeles.     Yunyyan Stupa is not a particuarly interesting place. While the stupa itself is beautiful on a blue sky day, I would not take time to come and visit unless I was already in the area for other reasons. It is set in a wooded park, which is unfortuantly not well maintained, with a lot of rubbish scattered around when I visitied in November 2015. But it does offer some pleasent views over Yingjiang Town and surrounding mountains, which may be of interest, but are again nothing spectacular. The stupa is also a 15 minute walk from Leyuan Temple, which is to the south. It is a small temple, but when combined with a visit to Yunyan Stupa, may make the outing more worth it. See more..

    The Tropic of Cancer runs through a park on the outskirts of Mojiang 墨江。 On certain days of the year, statues here don't cast a shadow. Climbing the (many) stairs of the park to the top provides an excellent view of the town and surrounding hills. There's a planetarium which is open at night. Entry to the park is 30 Yuan. Mojiang has a second distinction: It has more twins per capita than any other city in China. Some people believe it's the water, others just shrug their hands. Once a year (in May) they hold a big celebration in honor of twins. Because of the yearly twins festival, the town has lots of lodging options. Getting to Mojiang requires a bus ride of about four hours from the far south of Kunming. If you go, you should probably spend the night.     There are not many old houses, and everything is under construction (very dusty). But, what I liked is that Babao is not a commercial village, and you still can see the peasants planting rice, grandmas carrying their nephews on their backs and grandpas smoking their cigarets. The locals are also friendly and curios... we got invited in their home for a cup of tea. At first I was a bit disappointed about how it looks with all those new buildings but hey! this is the New China! Everything under construction! I would recommend this place only to travelers that have plenty of time - if you're on a short trip to Yunnan then better try to visit some other places. See more..

    于是坐了夜里的飞机,到昆明已经夜里2:30了,草草洗漱,在此不表.第一天的行程就算结束.(参加旅行团就是这样)天刚亮,就迫不及待的起来,想看看昆明的街景,下了小雨,对于刚从闷热的北京来的人说还算舒服,第一个印象就是整个城市比较落后,没有规划似的,楼房也都是些旧楼.来之前已经查了书,昆明的小吃不少,同时也想看看人家早上的早饭吃什么,就和LD上了街,记得有米线\饵块,就找了家人比较多的小店坐下,也许是不正宗,吃起来味道不太好,剩了许多.接到LD同事的电话,匆匆回了宾馆,准备第二天的行程. See more..
