   Did this as part of a food tour with Lost Plate, and it was amazing. Jeeps are the only way in and we stayed at Yubeng Upper Village. Cloud and snow covered the next morning, we set off on a 16km roundtrip hike with our group to the Sacred Waterfall. It was slightly below 0 but with warm clothes, temperatures weren't a problem. Hike was great and there's also plenty of birds to see along the way. Prayer flags everywhere make for great photo ops! The morning of our departure, we finally saw the sky and the peaks of the surrounding mountains, truly awe-inspiring. See more..

   I have never seen a peak more elegant and mystic. No wonder it's sacred o the Tibetans. The Mingyong glacier which flows of its flank is equally marvelous. Make sure your guide takes you up to Lian Hua Si (Temple) and not only to Tai Zi Si, because the lower end of the glacier is disappointing, only from Lian Hua Si you get the most fantastic view of the glacier and up the mountain!    Excellent is all relevant. If your looking for 5 Star travel and accommodations then is not for you. If your looking for a 5 Stars in experience then this valley will meet it. The road from Liuku to BingZhongLuo is narrow but is in good condition. There are some great views of the river along the way and on the south side of BingZhongLuo at the 1st and 2nd bends. There are equally great views if you travel further north to at least the first bridge crossing. Spend a couple of days in BingZhongLuo, walk to the 1st bend lookout to watch the sun rise in the snow covered mountain. The White against the Black is stunning. During the day the go to both lookouts to sit and take in the views. Travel further north past another lookout at river level and Fog Village and up to the bridge. There is a fee to pay before you enter BingZhongLuo, we got there late so didn't have to pay it. See more..

    Baoshan Stone Town is an old and small town with one hundred families built on a huge stone on the upper Yangtze riverbank, located 110km to the North of Lijiang, Yunnan Province. This town was built in the late 13th century and resided by Naxi Ethnic Minority ever since then. With one side facing the Upper Yangtze River, the other three sides are steep cliffs.     What an adventure. Leaving Lincang we hired a car and driver for a four hour drive to Cangyuan. Our goal was to visit a Wai people village. You have to hire a car and driver to take you to the village which takes about 45 minutes. The village is authentic and about 250 Wai people live there. You can walk around the village and see how the farming community lives. The government has given incentative for the people to continue to live in the village and preserve their way of life. We were told that the village is about 600 years old. They do not speak English so be sure you have an English speaking tour guide. It is the first place I have been and seen women who have blacken their teeth. We elected to take the local bus back to Lincang. When leaving any part of Southern Yunnan province you will be stopped for a random search of luggage. The government cracks down on smuggling in drugs.     In May 2014, I attempted to trek from the village of Bingzhonglou in the upper Nujiang Valley over the Northern Gaoligong mountains into the remote Dulong Valley. The route was tough. My Lisu guide and I followed hunting trails through the dense primordial forest before breaking above the tree line and discovering two stunning glacial valleys at the foot of the mountains. Unfortunately the path over the large peaks was too treacherous so we crossed over into a parallel valley and discovered a vast rhododendron sanctuary - the likes of which I have never seen before - at the foot of Mt Kenyichunpo. Intrigued by this beautiful and hidden region I will be heading back in May 2015 with an expert botanist and small group to further explore the area.     We were taken into this natural reserve from Ludian where we were staying, a 2hr drive. I think in time the tourist centre will be quite smart, but at the moment there is an unfinished air about it. This did not detract from the scenery at the viewpoints which were quite the most spectacular that I have seen anywhere in the world. We were taken to one of he viewing points on horseback for 20 Yuan each, an inexpensive way to add to the enjoyment of he area. On the day we visited, the viewing points were above the clouds and the distant scenery, far below us, drifted in and out of view lending the place a quite mystical feel. There were a few other tourists but the site was far from being crowded though I suspect as tourism and access is developed in the area it may become crowded.     This amazing place is about a 90 minute drive southeast of Kunming. There are limestone columns that rise from the earth and it is like walking through a vast, roofless cavern. The limestone has been eroded into interesting shapes and figures. It is large and filled with visitors but our guide (Murphy) showed us some areas that were not crowded.     We loved this quiet ancient town. Free village to roam around for a half day. Although the main "mansion" is no longer open for tours you can walk around the walled gate and see inside to the courtyards. The wall is only about 4 feet tall. Around he back of this mansion you can see a cool red temple across the river. We did not have time to go tour it but it looked interesting. The residents of the town were all very friendly and willing to talk if you know some Mandrin. We were invited into a courtyard to chat with a family opening up a hotel there.     I have been this mountain many times, most were trekking or plant explore. i like the nature views and rich biological species. and the local minority people are so kind and so honest, they always gave many help during we trekking. There's a little kiddie park in it, some adult rides (like tilt a whirl type stuff) and an arcade too. There's a "pet shop" behind the arcade area. Amazing blend of Mountain and Lake , this is one of the most beautiful hidden places in China that yet to be explored. To Cut short , once you"re in YongSheng ancient city, there are many village which most of the household there have their own plantation of corn,pear,mango,apple,rice , and also mix of chicken,cow,goat ! What you will see here and change your daily life is how simple yet warm they enjoy their daily life with lack of clean water supply, no proper bathing especially hot water during winter, lighting, for most of the villages, visited a few of the schools there and my dear the kids there is very charming and yet Need lots of basic necessity help from us who is living in so much more better world .
