Great range of exhibits showcasing the history of the establishment of Tsingtao beer. Easy to get to via Subway Line 2 station Taidong. Qingdao Site Museum of the Former German Governor's Residence image
As the governing body, German built this residence for the governor while staying in Qingdao, left their European influence behind this seaport city. Just looking from the exterior of the building and the garden, one may easily think that it's somewhere in Europe. The interior design is also admirable and pretty throughout. See more..

This new museum offers a great look at ancient Chinese art. There are galleries exhibiting ceramics, bronzes, statues, calligraphy, textiles and history. Although there isn't much English signage, the works are stunning. There is a good audio guide in English if you want a deeper context for the masterpieces you'll see. Admission is free if you present your passport or id card. CLOSED on Mondays. See more..
  5. 4.5 Liugongdao Exposition (41 reviews)
    - must see whale exhibit
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums
    Liugongdao Exposition image
My son and I visited the Expo site on Luigong Island to see the whale exhibit. The Expo site may be found by turning right on leaving the ferry exit, crossing the street, walk for 5 minutes and the entrance is on the left. The main landmarks of the Expo are the temple and dragon tower. The expo charge for a visit is covered in the ticket price to Luigong Island, and tickets need to be presented at the entrance. There are quite a few exhibits and gift shops on the Expo site, but we were short on time, and decided to see the whale exhibit, which is to the right of the temple. The temple was colourful, and had a collection of vases and urns on view. There was a budha with many beautifully painted guardians on either side. There was also a exhibit detailing the history of Luigong Island (mainly British exhibts) and activities in the daily life of it's inhabitants mainly during the 19th century. The whale exhibit was informative and well displayed. There were stuffed whales and skeletons on view. The view of all expo exhibits could probably be done in less than an hour. See more..

  8. 4.5 Qingzhou Museum (19 reviews)
    - Most appealing Chinese buddhist sculptures
Sunday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Qingzhou Museum image
I have been to Qingzhou quite a few times, always to visit this museum. This museum houses a fine collection of buddhist sculptures of the 6th century created by local artists. Their style is completely different from those in other areas even in the same period. They are mixtures of the linearity of the Ghardara style and the voluminous features of the Mathura stye in India. Underlying them is a unique Chinese subtlety reminding me of the Botticelli of Italian Renaissance. If you happen to be a lover of buddhist sculptures, this is your Mecca. See more..

Surviving calligraphy on bamboo slips tells the story of battle strategies perfected thousands of years ago by Sun Tzu. Beautiful traditional Chinese architecture houses relics of the Han Dynasty era. If you are fascinated by The Art of War, here lie the original scripted words and instructions of Sun Tzu, miraculously preserved after being submerged in water for millennia beneath the present-day city of Linyi in Shandong Province, China. - The New Football Museum is Now Open
Sunday: 7:55 AM - 5:02 PM Speciality Museums
    Linzi Football Museum image
Went there today, a taxi from the town was 12 Yuan. Be aware that it's out of town and you'll probably have to get the 237 bus back; walk onto the museum road, turn left, five hundred metres to the lights, turn right and the bus stop is about 50 metres. 1 Yuan for the bus. A brand new museum, 30 Yuan entry. They may want to see your passport! The first floor is about the Qi dynasty and early football. The second floor is the real football museum. A little about English football, a nice exhibit about the predidents of FIFA, a lot about World Cup, a nd quite a bit about Chinese football. Most of the labels are in Chinese but some have English translations. There's a small coffee shop but at 25Yuan is a Premiership price. Similarly in the gift shop, nothing under 300Yuan! The museum is on the museum park, which when finished, which it nearly is will be fantastic. Overall, a nice way to spend three hours. See more..
  14. 3.0 Tengzhou Museum (5 reviews)
    - 滕州,墨子的故乡

    Tengzhou Museum image

A museum to PROMOTE using donkey hides to make gelatin for a long life, weight loss and more energy? This is simply unacceptable and it is simply untrue.

    - Disappointing, unless you like small museums in big buildings
Sunday: 7:55 AM - 5:02 PM Speciality Museums
    Zibo Museum image
Such a huge building for such a tiny museum! Most of the building doesn't appear to be used for anything. The museum itself occupies perhaps one corner of the building. I was expecting more - a lot more! The only reason I didn't give this attraction the lowest rating is that what little there is to see is at least informative. If you're an archaeology buff, you might be particularly interested in this unearthing of Zibo's very ancient past. I have at least a passing interest in history; so, I found the exhibits mildly interesting. The plaza out front is, frankly, a bit more interesting, particularly when (mainly elderly) people are out flying kites. See more..

    - Good presentation of artifacts, lacking English
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Zhucheng Museum image
The museum spans across two magnificent buildings. As you enter the courtyard, the building on the right contains four levels (the fourth is not currently open) of historical artifacts and artwork from across the various dynasties and beyond. The building straight ahead is more dedicated to the "heroes" of Zhucheng, who include poets, writers, martyrs for the communist cause and well-known communist party members. Some helpful advice for non-speakers of Chinese, you will need to get a free ticket to enter the museum. This is found in the first building on the right as you enter the courtyard, then on the far right of the steps. You will need to show your photo ID which they will scan, then they will give you a locker to store your things and a receipt. This is all free of charge. The first museum displayed a large range of stone engraved artifacts and sculptures, scrolls of calligraphy and Chinese art, porcelain and clay pottery, stone stamps and ink trays, jade sculptures, ancient tools and weapons and some photos and modern art depicting the history of Zhucheng and it's present and future. There are English titles on most placards but the descriptions are only in Chinese. There are also few dates mentioned, only the dynasty or period the artifacts come from e.g. Qing, Ming etc. The second museum is difficult to take in without being able to read Chinese, but it appears to be mostly a shrine to the heroes of communism. The first museum's English descriptions of each room also seem to bolster the greatness of the city of Zhucheng. Perhaps this is why the museum is free of charge as it may be used to spread propaganda. The first museum is worth visiting if you have time to kill, and there is not much in this town for foreigners to kill time on. P.S. there are no dinosaurs here despite what the photos show See more..

This is a typical small village in China. It has all the amenities that an American traveler could need, but still has the old traditional Chinese small village areas. RiZhaoShi ChengShi GuiHua ZhanLanGuan image
See more..
