Most appealing Chinese buddhist sculptures

I have been to Qingzhou quite a few times, always to visit this museum. This museum houses a fine collection of buddhist sculptures of the 6th century created by local artists. Their style is completely different from those in other areas even in the same period. They are mixtures of the linearity of the Ghardara style and the voluminous features of the Mathura stye in India. Underlying them is a unique Chinese subtlety reminding me of the Botticelli of Italian Renaissance. If you happen to be a lover of buddhist sculptures, this is your Mecca.

    If you're in Jinan, Go!
This is a marvelous museum showcasing the importance of Shandong (Jinan) in different dynasties. It's on 2 floors, accessed by stairs. The Buddha statues are lovely. It was odd that we were permitted to photograph without flash in some of the galleries but not in others. The exhibits had scant English descriptions, but we were totally enchanted by the museum, nonetheless. It really should not be missed! I did not see an elevator, so cannot speak to whether the museum is handicapped accessible. Again, bring passports for entrance.
