This is quite big"scenic area" with lots of newly built temple style buildings and statues of all kinds of things like historical figures and fantasy creatures. I guess there is also some real Buddhist function with some of them, but for a foreigner some scenes reminded me of a cheap amusement park. In the end of the area near exit gate, there is more traditional, atmospheric and smaller temple without the wacky statues. But the true attraction here is the sea and it is beautiful. On an ordinary day the sea and sky merge into a haze in the distance and you can imagine how ancient people could have thought that this is the end of the world. Look down to the shore to see large waves striking the cliffs beneath you. You can see the smooth surface of the stone formations glimmering in sunshine, being washed again and again by the waves like they have been since the beginning of times. See more..

About One hour drive from Jinan and One hour twenty minutes from Taian (Taishan) city. Excellent natural scenic. To enjoy the weather and observe the beautiful valley cover with red color leaf, it better to visit during end of October to till end week of November. Lots of buses plays between Jinan and Red Leaves Valley during pick seasons. No need to be worried if you know Chinese otherwise get a good guide to reach the valley. Entry ticket is available just beside the steps / front side of Car parking area. You need to pay 60 RMB per head. Elephants in the wild don't rejects their babies because they've learned how to be a mother from the other matriarchs. ELEPHANTS DON'T BELONG IN ZOOS!!! Our car was not allowed into the nature reserve. So we parked at the foot of the mountain. We purchased tickets for the Park's transport to take us up the mountain. The road was windy and very steep, As it was rather foggy that day, we could not see much. At the top, we spent a little time, then we decided to attempt part of the walking trail down. The trail led through the forest. Then it started drizzling. When we came to the station where the bus that took us up had stopped during our trip up for a group of people to walk that trail, we decided to wait for one of the buses coming down to take us back to the foot of the mountain, thinking we would pay the RMB50 for the ride like what we did for the up journey. But guess what? The bus refused to take us. The driver stopped the bus to tell us this. We had no choice but to walk down. The walk down from that point on was very steep. The whole trail was made of cemented stairs and cemented paths. The park closed at 5pm. We reached the foot of the mountain close to 7pm. By that time, every one of us (there were 4 of us) were limping. Walking down this steep mountain was over reaching our calf muscles, almost tearing them. I was still limping 4 days later! I have been to many mountains, this one is not worth it. The service staff was not service oriented. The very good part of the mountain was the fresh air. See more..

I found the Bamboo park to be more interesting than Rizhao Coast Forest Park. It is not that big, it has an enclosure where animals (mainly monkeys) put on a circus performance and a large bamboo playground. I think you'd enjoy this park if you haven't seen a lot of bamboo before. This park is ideal for parents with small children.See more..
