    It was probably the hottest day of August in the Netherlands that we set out for our visit to the Gardens of Appeltern. A great destination for just looking at beautiful things but also a must for all who are pondering what to do with their gardens. Plenty of different "show gardens" with different flowers, structures, many with water etc. Make sure you have put on good footwear as there is a lot of walking to do if you want to see all. We did not manage to see all and therefore, we will have to go back to finalise our visit! See more..

    We've been here for two times and both experiences have been amazing! There is no entrance fee and the arts exhibits are very creative and beautiful (which amaze us because they are shown for free). There is also a small, cozy restaurant inside the gallery, which offers high quality products (e.g. biological/organic and fair trade chocolates, teas). The price of their food though is a little bit higher than normal restaurants. But still, it is just a bonus to dine in if you want to complete the experience of the place. Finally, you can walk around outside their garden to see other species of trees, plants, and flowers. See more..

    Worth spending a morning or afternoon here if you are in the neighborhood, even if you have to drive further afield. Passiflorahoeve has a number of butterfly gardens with spectacular butterflies enjoying settings close to their own habitat. They allow you to visit the caterpillar hatchery where one can see eggs, pupae, caterpillars and the live hatching of butterflies. From rare tropical species to native butterflies and endangered ones. The gardens are also beautiful, Passiflora garden, aristolochia collection and wonderful wild flower garden.     If you'd like to see a well restored historic farm building set in beautiful gardens in the English style, browse a shop with British goods and a nursery with a great variety of roses, and have a drink and snack in the estate's coffee shop, then this is the place to go. The buildings have been sympathetically restored and look great, the gardens are lovely, every rose lover will be able to find something he likes in the nursery, and the coffee shop has an interesting menu. My Welsh wife and I were mystified by the name of the coffee shop, Keltisch Koffiehuis, because we couldn't see anything that would make it deserve that title, and neither of us had ever heard of Celtic Goose (which is completely meat-free, by the way), but who cares as long as the food and drinks are good.     Because we liked our visit to "De Wiersse" in july 2017 so much we decided to come back to the gardens on october the 22th for a lecture and guided walk by Dutch horticulture-publicist Romke van der Kaa. The interesting lecture was on hardy ferns for Dutch gardens and was a good opportunity to see the historic interior of a reconstructed 17th century room.The estate was founded in 1288 and bought by the 19th century former Minister Victor de Stuers .The autumnal colors were pleasant and there were some late autumnal flowers.entry fee 6,50.only open on certain dates published on website.     Zomaar op een dag deze mooie tuin tegengekomen en de moeite genomen om de deze te bewonderen. De eigenaar is een enthousiast verteller en met recht trots op zijn prachtige tuin met waterpartij. De tuin bevat zeldzame bomen en planten, ook zijn er een aantal roofvogels te zien in de tuin. Wij hebben rustig de tijd (1 uur) genomen om alles te bewonderen. Deze tuin is een aanrader en voor de gevraagde 2 euro hoef je het niet laten. Misschien goed om te vermelden dat het entreegeld wordt gebruikt om de tuin te onderhouden en dat een deel naar KWF gaat. Op de kwekerij staan vele soorten Juglans (walnoot). Hiervan hebben we al meer dan 140 verschillende soorten, zowel sier als vruchtrassen. Daarnaast meer dan 60 soorten Carya (Pecan).
