Beautiful beach and in the lovely October weather it was easy to dream about going for a swim in the clean, clear waters. Can't wait to come back in the summer. See more..
- 4.5 Playa de El Puntal (638 reviews)
-City Sailboats
Beaches
Few cities in the world allow you to have it all in the summer. However, Playa de El Puntal in Santander gets you pretty close. With sweeping views of the city and the sea and surrounded by tiny sail boats this gem of a beach is well worth a day of your travel itinerary. If, you're not one of the many lucky souls in who the city their own water vessel, then you can jump on the public ferry for a scenic ride across the Bahia for the low low price of 4,10€. The terminal stop is pretty understated and is located off the main water front promenade; Jardines de Pereda. Once on the island, the water is super calm and clear, and you can often spot fish swimming between you and anchored boats. I'd suggest you head to the right of the island's bustling restaurant; Chiringuito El Puntal Tricio. To the right, the dunes are a bit more isolated, but you'll still be within ear shot of them calling your table number, lol. Prepare for the best tan ever. See more..

This is a beautiful beach, over a mile long with acres of golden sand and impeccably clean, as there are only two hotels it does not get very crowded, but it does attract surfers. I do not swim myself. so cannot comment on this aspect, but everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves See more..

-Gorgeous beach
Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
We stayed in pedrena so got the ferry to somo. 6 euros return for two people about 10 min ride. Once you get off just veer left and follow the boardwalk. When you get to the first major opening that takes you onto the beach. It was near the life guard and first aid section. The beach is gorgeous. Nice fine sand. Stretches for miles so wasn’t crowded on a Monday afternoon. The view of the two light houses and Santander were amazing. Small waves so need see surfers The town somo is nice, clean and quite a few places to eat. Definitely makes for a great holiday! See more..

-Golden Beach, Nice Surf!
Beaches
The beach is golden brown and the sea is a beautiful turquoise colour. If you are a swimmer, surfer or sun worshiper then this place could be just for you. However due to the steps it is not advisable to venture down if you have limited walking ability. If you are prudish then beware, although the majority of people we saw had swimwear on, a number of people were naturists! Well worth a visit anyway if you can manage the steps. Car parking is free and there is plenty of space. See more..

-Best beach in Santander
Beaches
The best beach in Santander. It’s really quaint little alcove beach. Worth the many steps down. The water is shallow, clear and soft sandy bottoms. We got the bus linea 1 or 2 from city centre. Short walk from the last stop. You also pass by this beach on your way to Cabo mayor. There was a bit of a queue today around 12 noon but wait wasn’t too long. They have an electric sign to say how busy the beach is. See more..
- 4.5 Playa Meron (196 reviews)
-Beautiful beach
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
Several kilometers of beautiful beaches, and we chose this one as it was the larger of the beaches and we had stopped in town for the afternoon. The water was warm, the sand is very clean, fine, easy to talk along and the beach has toilets, showers, These are the beaches in the area: Playa El Meron, Playa El Rosal / Tostadero, Playa La Gerra, Playa de Oyambre. This was a very relaxing pleasant stop along our journey where we enjoyed lunch at a neat restaurant, close to the water off the main road in town, before we drove onto our next destination. Very relaxing. See more..

Beaches
Of all the beaches we had visited on our 6 weeks road trip, this was the final spot and at the same time the best spot we had visited. Perfect for relaxing and surfing. - 4.5 Playa de Bikini (146 reviews)
-Bikini Beach
Beaches
To be clear, a lot of reviewers confuse this beach with that of adjoining Playa de la Magdalena which is much larger (see my pics for clarity) - Bikini Beach is a very small area on the far side of the breakwater leading towards the offshore island of La Horadada. Being so small and enclosed by breakwater to one side and rocky headland on the other it’s secluded and more private. The name originates from the early 70s when female foreign students attending university summer courses took advantage of their breaks to head for this beach wearing bikinis - considered very daring back in the day when Franco was in power! -Beautiful place
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
Amazing beach. There´s an islet in the middle, connected to the shore by a isthmus, like a sort of long natural sandy bump. Depending on the tide, you can walk along it, and the most remarkable trait of this beach is that due to the uneven terrain, depending on the height of the tide, waves don´t come towards you with a frontal movement as in everywhere else, but in a side movement, which is quite original and funny. - 4.5 Playa de la Concha (76 reviews)
-A lovely beach & a wonderful estuary
Beaches
The water was too cold at the end of September, so we could only enjoy the sun and beautiful views – the islands, which one can see in front are called Rabbit islands. The sand and the water were clean. Many restaurants, many surfers. La Concha beach is enclosed from one side by a long estuary, which is a perfect area for walking or riding a bicycle. Picturesque green landscapes, lots of birds, a warm pleasant smell of the grass and flowers. See more..

-Sunny Suances
Beaches
We pretty much stumbled upon this coastal beach town...complete with sun, sand and sea. The beach was broad with plenty of room for swimmers, sun bathers and a large crowd of surfers. Seafood restaurants and ice cream parlors lined the streets where visitors strolled along the sea wall at night looking for the perfect restaurant for seafood, tapas, and a glass or two of regional wine. We enjoyed our stay mmmensely. See more..

- 4.0 Playa de La Arena (24 reviews)
-Fantastic beach for relaxing in the sun
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
Fantastic beach with golden sands that changes dramatically from high to low tide. Playa de le Arena is located at the mouth of a tidal river estuary which at low tide exposes plenty of calm water to splash around in or rock pools the kids can explore. Even at high tide there is plenty of sand to relax on and run around. There are great views of the headland which can be accessed to take some great photos looking back at the beach. Set it to panoramic for the best results. Lifeguards are in attendance during the summer. Showers as you leave the beach to wash off the salt and sand. Local bars, cafes and restaurants for lunch if needed. Parking at the back of the beach and ice creams available at a kiosk. A great place to unwind on a hot day. See more..

- 4.0 Playa Arenillas (13 reviews)
-Rocky peninsula
Beaches
As you drive along N-634 in the direction of Santander leaving Islares you’ll see signs to the beach (Playa) on the approach to a left hand bend. It’s only a hundred yards or so to the car park so not much of a diversion and you can then walk round and over the rocks to the small beach which is to the left. At one time this was more of a destination but now there’s a large derelict building falling into disrepair and the path across the rocks is closed off. It’s a good spot to watch the waves roll into the bay on one side and the part enclosed pool on the other. There are some steps leading into the sea from boat ramp and in front of car park but looking at how the sea swirls round I’m not sure it would entice me into swimming here! There’s a restaurant and camping site just up from the car park. See more..
- 3.5 Playa de Bazomar (12 reviews)
-Smaller of the two town beaches
Beaches
There are two beaches in Castro Urdiales and this is the smaller, located at the far end near Parque Cotolino on the headland beyond. Half way along the beach is the derelict Hotel Miramar standing empty, vandalised and rather an eyesore but the beach itself consists of smooth sand and no doubt a busy spot in the summer months (it was empty early March). It’s worth carrying on to the small park on the other side of the river estuary where you get a good view back towards the old town and harbour area. The concrete breakwater at the town end (Muelle de Don Luis) makes for a pleasant stroll, although it’s not what you might call attractive. See more..

-Superb, clean safe beach
Beaches
Superb beach, clean, easy nearby parking, showers & toilets nearby, plus a couple of bars / cafes that do simple food & snacks. No shade on the beach (there may be during the peak season). The beach slopes gently to the sea. The sea is shallow to 3m out, when there is a shelf beyond which it drops to 1.5m (approx.) deep, the it gets gently deeper See more..

Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
