    Much more than expected
We chose to go to San Vicente de la Barquera after having stayed in Santallina del Mar town last year, and wanted a change of venue. It is such an interesting place, with a coastline, beaches, wooded areas, the Picos Europas as well as really lovely friendly people. It is still essentially a fishing port, and we did not find it a "touristy" place at all. We were very glad that we had taken the trouble to learn some basic Spanish before we went. There isn't a huge choice of places to eat, but there were enough to keep us happy for the ten days that we were there!! with beautiful fresh fish of all descriptions on offer, It is also a really great base from which to visit the prehistoric caves that are spread out in the region. We had been to Altimira before, but it is not a place that you can tire of! Each time we have visited, we found something new and amazing to learn about. Also the Picos Europas, and many other small, quaint, and interesting villages. Look out for Barcena Mayor.

    Great wild Atlantic beach
Great wild Atlantic beach Came for the day and the beach is great for surfing, walking, running, ball games etc. fine sand and lovely. Had been warned of parking chaos but hey, welcome to Spain! There was ample parking, we saw 3 car parks, you just have to see the beauty behind the chaos!!
