Golden Beach, Nice Surf!

The beach is golden brown and the sea is a beautiful turquoise colour. If you are a swimmer, surfer or sun worshiper then this place could be just for you. However due to the steps it is not advisable to venture down if you have limited walking ability. If you are prudish then beware, although the majority of people we saw had swimwear on, a number of people were naturists! Well worth a visit anyway if you can manage the steps. Car parking is free and there is plenty of space.

Fantastic Beach, Especially for a "Seamless" Suntan!
Langre is our favourite beach in the Santander area. The beach is split in two by a small headland with (looking out), the left beach being smaller but with easier access and, generally smaller surf. The larger right beach has some concreate steps but the bottom section was washed away a few years ago so there's a small scramble across some rock to access the lovely golden sand. The right beach has Lifeguards present from June to September and is the place to go for the Seamless Suntan, the "clothes optional" area being at the far end of the beach, beyond the lifeguard station. The beach itself has a fairly shallow slope and is great for kids most of the time but, being a bay, when the surf gets going, a strong "rip" develops which can be dangerous for weak swimmers. However, the lifeguards are always vigilant and keep people away from the problem areas. I have seldom been to Langre when there is no surf, although the quality can be variable and often, big waves and on shore winds can lead to "dumping". Rock pools at either end of the beach provides hours of fun for young and old alike. One thing to be aware of - Like most beaches in Cantabria, Weaver fish are not uncommon but if you do get stung, Alex and the rest of the life guards are very adept at removing the sting and providing first aid treatment. Finally, in the high season, an ice cream van, parked on the top of the cliffs provides a welcome treat after a hard days surfing and sunbathing.
