4.5Borobudur Temple(7.664 reviews) - Worth visiting even it not fully opened Sunday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
Borobudur Temple Compounds This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s.See more..

4.5Grand Indonesia Mall(3.243 reviews) - Grand Indonesia Mall, Jakarta Sunday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Shopping Malls
This mall is impressive and very, very large and you'll need a couple of days to have a really good look and experience because we couldnt even get to see the whole mall in two days! It is typical of the mega-malls in that it does not cater for people on a budget. Many high end fashion labels and brands on the ground levels and as you ascend the escalators you start to get more affordable brands however, nothing is cheap so, don't go to this mall looking for bargains! I did however find good buys in this mall (according to my budget) and I enjoyed the experience. The cinema's are fabulous and surrounded by many eateries. There are several food halls throughout this mall so, you'll be spoiled for choice in deciding where to eat however, be aware that this is aligned to the high end status of the mall so, no cheap eats! Best to catch a taxi because parking is expensive and horrendous and so much easier being stuck in traffic with a taxi than driving your own vehicle.See more..
4.5Ijen Crater(2.920 reviews) - Awesome stop on our cheap 3-day private tour of East Java Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Geologic Formations
Mount Ijen is so majestic and impressive, and yet it also left me emotional due to the mine workers who live in the worst circumstances one can imagine. The crater lake view is absolutely worth the steep and never-ending climb and the fact that you need to defy the sulfur gasses on the way up (or down into the crater for the blue flames). Make sure to bring your own gas mask before visiting this place. The ones they offer you there are so old and dirty, I can guarantee you they make it worse instead of better. Also, you could donate your gas mask to the mine workers afterwards, who are too poor to buy one themselves and have to work in the sulfur gasses day in day out. Read all about them and how the climb to Mount Ijen really is in the 'Visit Mount Bromo and Ijen' post on my website xgetaway. You can also find the names and contact details of our private guides and driver on our cheap 3-day private tour of the East of Java.See more..

4.0Ratu Boko Temple(1.395 reviews) - Lovely compound of a temple ruin Ancient Ruins • Religious Sites
Ratu Boko is a nice, ruined temple not far from Prambanan temple complex, up on a hill. It has an impressive entrance gate. I only had less than two hours so had to hurry round the temple area. The weather was good and there were not so many people so I wandered around almost alone, as my companions preferred to wait in the shade. So I went all around, even up the hill to the "Padang" from which there is a lovely view across to Prambanan. With the brochure I was able to read up a bit afterwards too, since I was in a hurry to catch a late afternoon flight. For foreigners living in the country, don't forget to bring your kitas to avail of the normal entry price, currently Rp 40,000 per person.See more..
Bring a coat, it is over 2000feet up and freezing. If clouds allow it, the view is breathtaking. If it’s not foggy, the sunrise is incredible. The journey to Bromo is a very bumpy ride. Issues with backs? Think about this one. 4 wheel drive jeeps fly up and down as the drive on the rough terrain. Stunning volcano. Horses for the tourists look sad :(See more..
4.5Tunjungan Plaza(1.317 reviews) - What's a huge shopping mall in city center! Sunday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Shopping Malls
I think it is the largest shopping mall in Surabaya. I heard from my grab driver the mall is actually constituted of 6 small malls and they are interlinked. You are expected to spend the whole day shopping in this mall. Whatever things both local or imported you want to buy can be easily find there. During our visit, Matahari store got big discount and we got really good bargain on clothing. There are many restaurants in different types which offer great variety of food. We've our lunch in one of the Japanese restaurants. The price was bit expensive but they really served very good Japanese food. Other than shopping I don't think there are any other activities you can do. So be prepared to bring your credit card or fill up your wallet with cash when you go there.See more..

4.5Sewu Temple(858 reviews) - Worth the effort to visit Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Although Sewu temple is significantly smaller than both the main Shiva temple within the Prambanan complex and Borobudur it has the added appeal of not getting very many visitors. This seems to be largely because it is located about 1km from the main Shiva temple and most people appear to be too lazy to walk the distance. When I visited on a Sunday afternoon the main Shiva temple was extremely busy but the Sewu temple was completely deserted - I was able to wander around without being disturbed and soak up the tranquility. So although the temple itself isn't quite as impressive, the peace and quiet of the location makes it well worth the effort to visit. Entrance is included with the 225k IDR you pay to enter the Prambanan temple complex.See more..

The restaurants along the road have made the area really special and lively. When we walked at daytime we could see many more old buildings along the smaller connecting road that has so much potential to become shops or restaurants or cafe. I hope they continue building and restoring them. See more..
