    Travel to the Temple
This temple is situated in a large complex of other sites. The Prambanan temple is Indonesia’s largest Hindu site, built in the late 9th century. The main compound consists of 3 temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. At the time of our visit, no one was allowed to enter or climb the temples and they could only be viewed from the grounds. Be sure to walk (or rent a bike) to the other minor Buddhist temples in the complex. Candi Lumbung, Candi Bubrah and Candi Sewu are spread out over 1km and in my opinion Candi Sewu (the furthest away) is the most impressive of the three. There is also a small museum and deer feeding area to enjoy. One could spend 2-3 hours exploring the complex. It is possible to do Borobudur in the morning and Prambanan in the afternoon. We purchased a combination Borobudur-Prambanan ticket for IDR 652.500. Overall we had a great experience and, would highly recommend a visit to Prambanan.

    Clearing some thing up
I have just returned from Prambanan Temple (10 Feb, 2023) and want to clear up some confusion which seems to be swirling around the internet. You absolutely can enter the temple and walk all over it as I just did it an hour ago (with about a million school kids, but to be expected). It is expensive to get in owing to the vast cost associated with restoring this place from the ground up. And considering how inexpensive everything else is in Yogja, it balances it. As for getting there is was a simple 125,000 from the centre of town to the temple, and there are cabs waiting outside. If you want a guide they are around, but even if you don't know your basic stories of Rama, Ganesha, etc it is pretty easy to to read up about the symbolism beforehand so you don't really need a guide.
