Nice view, interesting crater
We arranged this through our tour guide. We were picked up by a jeep at 2am at our hotel - be prepared for a bumpy curvy ride up. If you have motion sickness do prepare for it. It was cold, we wore three layers to keep warm. At around 4am we started the walk up to King Kong hill. Our guide brought us up a beaten path (not the usual spot) to catch the sunrise. It seems like local guides know this spot as a few others were also there. The scenery was nice and we were blessed with clear weather so we had a great experience taking in the view. After the sunrise, we jeeped off another spot for the crater. We used a hiking pole to help us trek up which was very useful. Then there is a super long flight of stairs up to the top of the crater (there are four rest points to catch your breathe). The view up there was rather nice although nothing overly majestic. On our way down we opted for the horse ride back. It costs us IRD50,000 per person one way, don’t get scammed by higher quotes! Overall, if you’re in East Java, you’ll need to make this one of your stops.

For the past few months, Mount Bromo was closed for visitors due to covid-19 pandemic and currently Mount Bromo has been reopened for tourists. it can be accessed again with paying attention to safety & health protocols that have been determined by the local government. The location of Mount Bromo is in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area there are 4 different ways for tourists to get there. The most often chosen route is from Probolinggo because the access is very easy and there are many hotels available to stay. To access any places of Mount Bromo, visitors usually use a jeep. But don't worry because of around the location of Mount Bromo, there are so many jeeps that are rented out by local residents for around IDR 500.000.- (penanjakan 1 - Bromo and the meeting points in Sukapura). Some tips that I can give when you want to visit Mount Bromo are to make sure you have ordered tickets online via bookingbromo.bromotenggersemeru.org because currently tickets can only be purchased online through this site and because there are restrictions of the number of tourists each day, make sure you book the tickets in advance. If you want to stay in the center of Probolinggo city, there is Bromo Park hotel which has very good location, as it is only 1 km from the Probolinggo city station. Bromo Park Hotel also provides tour packages to Mount Bromo which includes car pickup from the hotel to Mount Bromo, a jeep and entrance ticket.
