Giving free tours

This is a privately owned entity. What we can see here are colletions of heirlooms from the Sampoerna Family. The words museum is misleading. But they are doing community service by providing free city tours to the local and tourist. We enjoyed the free bus ride that bring us to visit places of interest with guides to explain about the history of Surabaya. They give 2 tours daily morning and afternoon to different sectors of the city. That's it.

Interesting museum and free guided city tours.
This museum is housed in a former cigarette manufacturing factory and mainly displays articles related to the (Chinese) family who owned and ran this business.Entrance is free and the displays are interesting and well presented. But more interesting to us were the three times a day, four days a week 1.5 hour bus and guided walking tours which commence from here and which take participants to various historical areas of the colonial era, such as the Jembatan Merah (Red Bridge), the Pabean market, and the site of the former Surabaya keraton, now occupied by old colonial houses. Whilst these tours are also free, they must be booked beforehand: in our case this was done through our hotel. The accompanying guide gave explanations in both English and Indonesian.

No more showing the traditional cigarette-making process makes me sad.
House of Sampoerna is not as attractive as it used to be, because we can't see the activities of making kretek cigarettes directly as before. Actually, the main attraction that attracts the attention of this museum is the manual process of making cigarettes, I have not only once brought tourist guests here and it was a good impression that made visitors the most happy when they saw the process. However, the city tour bus is still very worth trying, the tour guide is very knowledgeable.
