Great place not to be missed!

We went there not knowing what to expect. But we were flabbergasted with the experience we had. Floating on a tube and passing through the dark cave which had thousands of rats on the roof and stalagmites that had formed over thousands of years. We came across a small opening of the cave roof that let the sunlight in. Heavenly look indeed!! Don't miss this place if you are visiting Yogyakarta.

    Fun time cave river tubing
Gua Pindul is a limestone cave with a river flowing through it; about 50 km eastwards of Yogyakarta city, about 1.5 hrs drive,in Gunung Kidul district which has hilly limestone geography. We went with rented car passing through small towns, then Wonosari town, and peacefull villages dotted with plots of padi plant, maize, chili, teak trees. The tourist centre have clean basic facilities; changing rooms and toilet, 2 foodstalls. Paid 30,000 Rp each at the counter and were provided a guide for 4-5 persons,life-jackets, rubber tubes with bottom supporting straps, rubber shoes. Its advisable to wear shorts, bring a torch and preferably waterproof cameras. My guide was definitely experienced, knowledgeable, very helpful guy pulling our tubes along when the river was slow moving. My first time going through a limestone cave in a tube and it was fun and enlightening. Cave length about 250 metres,a bit dark and claustrophobic at first, then just sit back and listened to the guide talking, observing the rock formations etc and taking lots of photo with my cheap camera. Halfway we were allowed to climb onto a slippery shelf just for the fun and also said a short prayer wish at an auspicious location in the cave.Saw the light at the end of the tunnel; got off the tubes, up the cement steps and onto a waiting pick-up van and a choice either to go back or another tubing adventure on the nearby Oyo river. Next visit was to Indrayanti beach about 45 mins drive south. Overall, a fun outdoor outing for us.

    Get ready to get wet
From a normal if you miss this site nothing great, but when in jogyakarta and looking for fun time, this should be a place. Little over 90 min from city. Do carry proper change and slippers/ sandals that can get wet. Also carry a water proof case for camera. Rest valuables we suggest not to carry or lock in the car. It is a 350m slow river tubing through a cave full of formations and bats. Then in the second phase there tubing over a little fast river for some excitement. Overall fun filled 2 hrs. It is safe. And do remember to take a bath at the place itself as the river wate does not look clean.
