In 1804, an army camp was established near Zeist, led by the French general de Marmont. The camp included three army units, two of which were French and one Batavian. The Marmont, who had been campaigning with Napoleon in Egypt in 1798, wanted to have an eternal memory point for himself and had the soldiers build a pyramid from loam. This was based on the pyramid of Giza. The pyramid was ready on October 4, 1804. Eventually she was renamed the 'pyramid of Austerlitz', partly because the troops from the camp had fought in this battle. The pyramid of Austerlitz is not far from the village of Austerlitz, near to the N224.See more..

The Griftpark is a park created on an old factory. It has been intensily cleaned and turned into a city park, with a park, a dogpark, a pettingzoo, a good sized playground, a skatepark and restaurants. It's a popular place to hang out, especially in the summer. See more..
4.0Maximapark Utrecht(37 reviews) - Maximapark is fantastic! Spent 1-2 hours Parks
Have recently discovered this fantastic, new park (as more people in the area of Utrecht are doing), designed by the world-renowned landscape and garden designer Piet Oudolf (b. 1944), designer of the popular "Highline" park in Manhattan. Visit first the big Castellum, modelled on a historic, ancient Roman fort at this site, then walk, skate, bike, or run the 10 kilometer, broad "Lint," bringing you completely around the park. Or even better: take the old Alendorperweg beginning near the Castellum, then do a little jog, and take the Enghlaan, to savor the old Dutch landscape of green farms and luxurious villas, with their sumptuous gardens, and see Oudolf''s brilliant additions, like a "butterfly park." In 10 years will this be the world-renowned Central Park of Utrecht? Could very well be!See more..

4.5Nationaal Bomenmuseum Gimborn(33 reviews) - One of the most beautiful parks I’ve seen Spent 2-3 hours Parks • Gardens
Not sure how this always flew under my radar, but surely the most beautiful parks I’ve visited. Maybe their name puts people off? I’d imagine a “tree museum” to be kind of boring if you’re not interested in trees - but that’s not what this place is about in my experience. Instead it’s a huge, diverse park with lot’s of signage for children to learn about nature and for adults, a wonderful stroll (30min short route, 90min long). If you want to see everything, you can surely spend 2 hours here.See more..

Very nice farm-zoo with farm animals like cows, donkeys, variety of goats and sheep, many chickens, turkey and even peacock. All animals are groomed and healthy. Almost all of them like being patted and will try to give you their heads for patting. Very cute. Cow's calf is very shy, but baby donkey is a playful and smart guy.See more..

3.0Park Boom en Bosch(14 reviews) - quiet park in a quiet town; extras in Fall and Summer: Dutch poffertjes/music Spent < 1 hour Parks
This is a nice little park in the town of Breukelen. It is rather small, but so is the town. There are some benches, wooded area a lawn and you can walk around the 'Boom en Bosch' building (former city hall) to get to the garden that is facing the river Vecht. That is a beautiful part of it. Also with additional seating. In the Fall/Autumn there is the 'poffertjeskraam' that serves delicious Dutch poffertjes (stacks of tiny pancakes with butter and powdered sugar). Yummy! And in the summer a foundation organizes weekly music performances in the park on Sunday. That is mainly in July and August. They even will provide garden chairs to sit in and enjoy the music. The concerts are free. There is food/drinks for sale and a lottery for which you can buy tickets in the intermission. Usually the first performance is from 2pm to 3pm and the second performance is from 3:15pm to 4pm(ish). Both Fall and Summer activities are a bonus to going to this park.See more..

It is not a park but it is more an "Estate". In one side, entrance from "hoolesteeg", you will see a grass field with sheeps and a lot of old trees. The area of the old trees ( Veteranen bomen) is forbidden to enter. You can make a walk through a lane of the "European beech" trees. And on the other side there is a green-house, the "Villa Schothorst" with its garden, farm etc. It's a nice place to have a walk, by the way.See more..

4.5Landgoed Bredius Park(7 reviews) - My favorite park in Woerden Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks • Gardens
I was waiting for my bus near to Woerden station walking around... And suddenly among beautiful but a little bit hectic at that time dutch streets I found a park. I went in and was shocked: "How is this possible to find such a place in the middle of a city?!" Amazing colorful autumn trees, canals, birds, fatties (sheep, swans and ducks, all of them are extremely cute), NATURE! I enjoyed walking there for an hour! I think it's a good place to get rid of everything and stay only with your own thoughts (and fatties).See more..

In a bend of the Laan van Gunterstein is the public entrance to this park. It is lovely with meadows and trees. The way up to it is not so nice because it is a shared road with pedestrians, people riding their bike, motorcycles and cars have to share the road. As a pedestrian you are the weakest part of traffic. The road is relatively narrow and when cars coming from both ways, it is kind of scary. The park itself is good for a relaxing walk. The public part is separated by a small 'no entrance' sign on a chain from the part that is restricted because it is in use by the family that owns the park and the castle. It is great that the family does share the park with the public. Chapeau! The rating 'average' is because of the scary road (for pedestrians) to the park and the lack of parking (so you have to walk to get there; and that is scary).See more..
5.0Vijverbos(2 reviews) - Schitterende herfstwandeling in het Vijverbos Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Parks
Wauw! See more..
