  1. 4.5 Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren (251 reviews)
    - Beautiful views but plan beforehand
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren image
i saw some reviews of people who wanted to climb the tower but found a closed door: be aware that you have to buy your tickets beforehand at the VVV (the Dutch tourist office). Only during summer months there are daily tours to the top of the tower:in July and August every day between 12.00 and 18.00. Outside the summer season there is only one daily tour starting at 14.00. So yes, you get the added benefit of being far from the maddening crowd of Amsterdam, but this goes with reduced opening hours. The views from the top are stunning, and you get to climb up much higher than most towers (to the final trans). When we got the tour, we were the only two people and the tour guide switched effortlessly to English (I'm Dutch but my partner isn't). The tour guide times the guide so that you are close to the carillion when it goes to play, so you can hear the bells from very close. See more..

  8. 4.5 Sint Willibrordkerk (87 reviews)
    - A beautiful, beautiful catholic church in a protestant Utrecht..
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Sint Willibrordkerk image
You wouldn't expect a catholic church to be built in such a grand style in Utrecht, in the Netherlands. This after all - is majority protestant in the lands "above the river", and yet, here we are.. I lived in the neighbourhood of Utrecht for years, and never knew. It was - as are all catholic churches - "well hidden in plain view". Such churches were also called "Schuilkerken" - or hidden churches. They were designed to look like villas on the outside, but were churches on the inside.. So too this church. It's been recently purchased by a French order, and mass is celebrated in the traditional latin. So if you'd like to see mass as it used to be celebrated in the 14th century, head down here. its quite an experience See more..

  10. 4.0 Anne Frank Standbeeld (57 reviews)
    - Anne Frank in Utrecht
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Anne Frank Standbeeld image
This we'll known statue of Anne Frank was a gift of the children of Utrecht. They collected old paper and iron to pay for the statue. It was a gift on April 30th 1959, the day former Queen Julia celebrated her birthday. Utrecht artist Pieter d'Hont is the artist. I like the self assured posture of Anne Frank here. For me she represents here "strenght" &"hope". Her diary being translated in more then 70 languages, being present in the centre of Utrecht (near the flower market) is a symbol of just that. Head up and giving the people something to remember; you go girl! See more..

The old mill yard of the ‘Molen de Ster’ sawmill forms a unique industrial heritage site, dating back to the eighteenth century. After several renovations, the site is currently used in a versatile manner – reflecting both its historical roots and the lively neighbourhood of Lombok, in which it is situated in Utrecht. Molen de Ster is only an 6 minute walk from Utrecht Central Station (Jaarbeursplein exit) and close to Utrecht’s medieval city centre. Our cafe is open from Wednesdays till Sundays, on Saturdays we are open for free guided tours, and we regularly organise or host events in our saw barn or on the mill yard. 35. 3.0 De Plofsuis (4 reviews)
    - Een uniek onderdeel van de Hollandse waterlinie
    Points of Interest & Landmarks

    - Amazing operating Dutch windmill

    Molen Geesina image
We were taken here by relatives as part of a longer day of events. It's maybe 15 minutes out from Utrecht and on one of the driving routes from Amsterdam. The windmill was operating in fairly strong winds. It was amazing to see this centuries-old technology. In strong wind these turn out to develop tremendous power. The host spent nearly an hour showing us everything in both Dutch and English. It fascinated everyone in our group, ages 11 - 64. An unexpected big hit! Three notes: first it was windy (duh) but therefore pretty chilly, in August, so bring layers. Second, it's only open on Saturdays. Third, to get into the windmill itself you climb multiple ladders. - Dutch Landscape
Wednesday: Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    De Veenmolen image
The "Veenmolen" is a grain mill located on the edge of a village called Wilnis. Large parts of this landscape have undergone a double metamorphosis in recent centuries: from land to water (by peatification) and back to land (reclamation). The mill is open every Saturday between 10:00 - 16:00 unless otherwise stated on this website. We also participate annually in the National Mills Day and Heritage Days. Once, there were over 10.000 windmills in Holland. Different types of windmills existed, with various purposes: milling grain, pumping water out of polders, pressing oil, sawing wood, grinding spice, et cetera. The Dutch made themselves a name worldwide with windmills. As a result of industrialisation, the windmills passed out of use and became idle. Many fell into decay and disappeared altogether. Now there are only about 1000 windmills left, which are kept for their cultural and historical value. See more..

The neoclassical garden temple ( folly ) stands on a slight elevation and offers a view of the overtuin with a winding pond at the botom.
