We visited the church on Saturday afternoon and attended a 'free' concert. Every Saturday there is a 'free' classical concert. This time we listened to music from Bach played beautifully on the impressive organ. Had an hour to look around while enjoying the special music. Note that during that time it is not really appropriate to walk around or leave the church. Pretty serious audience. At the end there is an offering for the organisation who organises the concerts. Suggested donation is 10 Euro a person. You can leave cash or use their pin machine. A great restful place in this beautiful city. See more..

St. Joris kerk (St Georges church) is the largest church in Amersfoort and sits in the main square (the Hof). Not too exciting on the inside but a few times a day about two minutes after the clock has struck the hour figures of St George and the dragon come out of the small bell tower at the front of the church and St George proceeds to slay the dragon. The grand tower was built around 1300, while the church was added significantly later in the 1400s. The (city) tower was part of the defense structure of Oudewater until 1870. For military reasons especially the lower part of the tower with passage looks very solid and robust. No wonder the tower survived the destruction after the siege of Oudewater by Spanish troops in 1575. City hall did not. Much of the population was brutally murdered during the events also known as the Oudewater Massacre (in Dutch: de Oudewaterse moord). Note the saddle shape of the roof of the tower which is more common in Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe in the north of the Netherlands. Just walking around Zeist and found this church and went inside. It is claimed that a wall in the church is the oldest in the Netherlands but it was not clear to me whether it was the oldest wall or the oldest church wall. Either seems quite unlikely to me. Worth a visit which will take less than one hour. See more..

This as a small cathedral (protestant) church (14th century) with some special elements: a tomb in the choir and lots of memorial boards, all related to the family living at the time at Nyenrode. The organ is a beautiful Batz baroque organ, which can sometimes be heard during a concert. Not normally opened for visits. Only during concerts and the Dutch Monuments Day. See more..

We passed this church very often but it's not always open. And one day we were in the neighbourhood and when we saw the church was open, we wouldn't let our chance to visit the church goes away. Walking around in Woerden, we found this chatolic church at the corner of the shopping area, near the castle of Woerden. It is neo-Gothic style. The tower is crowned with a spire with flanking turrets. The church is opened limited due to the situation at this moment, 10.00 am-12.00 am. We were a little bit late so we could only see it from outside and made some picture of it. See more..

Op het sfeervolle Kerkplein van Woerden bevindt zich naast de Hervormde Petruskerk de Petrustoren, deze toren stamt uit 1384 en is plus minus 58 meter hoog. De toren bestaat uit 203 treden en de klim bestaat uit een aantal etappes. Op iedere tussenverdieping stopt het gezelschap onder leiding van een gids van het Gilde die er vertelt over de geschiedenis van Woerden, de toren, de immense klokken en de schilderwerken van de stad. Beklim de Petrustoren voor een prachtig uitzicht over Woerden en de regio. Iedere 2e en 4e zaterdag van de maand worden er speciale torenrondleidingen in de Petrustoren georganiseerd. De beklimming starten om 13.00, 14.00 en 15.00 uur. Voor kaarten kunt u terecht bij de VVV Woerden. De Petruskerk wordt op dezelfde dagen opengesteld als de Petrustoren. In 1887 is de in neogotische stijl gebouwde, zogenaamde driebeukige hallenkerk in gebruik genomen. De kerk is gerestaureerd in de periode 1968-1972 en op 11 november 1972 verleende Paus Paulus aan de kerk de titel van “Basilica Minor”; de hoogste eretitel voor een kerkgebouw buiten de stad Rome.
Binnen zie je de prachtige glas in lood ramen en een kunstig in hout bewerkte kansel. Later las ik over de Mariabeeltenis wat we niet wisten omdat we eigenlijk spontaan naar IJsselstein gingen en tijdens de wandeling hier terecht kwamen. Goed voor een volgende keer want IJsselstein is een gezellige plaats. See more..

This church from 1862 is a municipal Monument. We were on the way to Woerden and saw this church. The church was not open when we were there though there was someone inside preparing the sunday services. There are two services, 09.30 am and 06.30 pm. Behind the church there is a small graveyard. Мы вошли внутрь и попали на крещение ребенка. Задерживаться не стали, поскольку это семейный праздник, но поразила атмосфера, когда приглашенные просто стоят общаются, наливают себе чай. Внутри никаких изысков нет, все очень просто, но душевно. Снаружи интересная башенка с часами. Нам очень понравилась площадь, на которой стоит церковь. Стоит посещения обязательно. See more..

For a roman catholic church, the "St.Martinuskerk" is quite a new one. It is a post-war church ( built in 1950-1951 ). The original catholic church "Maarteenkerk" was used as protestant church. Though on the door of the church the note said that the church is open from 25th April but it was closed when we were there. On the left wall of the church there is a "wall of connection" ( kind of the wailing wall in Jeruzalem ) that symbolizes the connection we experience with God and with each other in this corona time. You can write you prayer to God as a letter and put it in the wall and then will be burned. See more..

Polsbroek is just a small village with around 2000 inhabitants in Utrecht province, but it has a remarkable brick church. The main building dates from 1834, but the tower is much older, the lower part is from around 1300, the higher section added later is 15th century. It is the lively center of the Dutch reformed community in Polsbroek. Every Sunday there is a service at 9:30AM and 6:30PM. See more..

Nederlands Hervormde Kerk of Doorn is the Maartenskerk that was originally dedicated as a Catholic Church when it was built in 1180. Since 2016 the church is in used by the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. Usually it's not open except on Sundays or only for the services. There was a couple who's going to get married in this church in July and they needed to see inside the church before their day come. I was there and got inside with them. It's quite a big space but looks empty ( because of the pandemic that is only for 30 persons ). Finally visited this church after years having monthly visit in the area. On the church square there is an old water pump and a statue of Simon Vestdijk, a writer who was a resident of Doorn. See more..

Since 1566 Veenendaal has had this 'oude kerk' (old church). It is built on a small hill at the market place and is one of the few historic buildings in town. Orinally dedicated to Christ the Redeemer, though after the Reformation any reference to saints or personalities became a taboo. Na de Reformatie en de Tachtigjarige Oorlog was de godsdienstvrijheid van de katholieke gemeenschap in de Nederlanden zeer beperkt. Haar kerken waren "overgenomen" door de gereformeerden en zij mochten geen van buitenaf herkenbare vervangende kerken bouwen. De katholieken in Vianen waren tot in de 19e eeuw aangewezen op een schuilkerk, de laatste gelegen in de tuin van een pand aan de Voorstraat. Na het vervallen van de beperkingen bouwde de katholieke gemeente rond 1870 de kerk "Maria ten Hemelopneming", waarvan de voorzijde ligt aan de Brederodestraat. Het werd een grote, driebeukige hallenkerk, zonder toren. Ontwerp Alfred Tepe. Sobere versie van de bouwstijl neogotiek. Mooie hoge gotische puntboogvensters. De voorzijde aan de Brederodestraat staat er goed bij met de drie duidelijk te onderscheiden hallen. Rechts van de kerk de pastorie, met de kerk verbonden dmv een overdekte corridor. Helaas in een weinig bij de kerk passende bouwstijl. Enfin. Een zijgevel van de kerk is moeilijk te bekijken omdat men een lelijk 20e eeuws schoolgebouw tegen de kerk heeft gebouwd. Mooi vijfkantig gesloten koor aan de zijde Achterstraat. Helaas staat de kerk, wat betreft de zijden Brederodestraat en Stalstraat, aan een nu nogal rafelige rand van het stadje. Jammer, maar de rommelige leegstaande panden zullen ooit wel verdwijnen. Interieur maar eens in post-coronatijd bekijken. Ramen zien er veelbelovend uit. Eindelijk weer eens een mooi neogotisch kerkgebouw, zonder onzintorentjes e.d..
