St. Martin's Cathedral Domkerk, Utrecht Province, The Netherlands

Restful place in the city

We visited the church on Saturday afternoon and attended a 'free' concert. Every Saturday there is a 'free' classical concert. This time we listened to music from Bach played beautifully on the impressive organ. Had an hour to look around while enjoying the special music. Note that during that time it is not really appropriate to walk around or leave the church. Pretty serious audience. At the end there is an offering for the organisation who organises the concerts. Suggested donation is 10 Euro a person. You can leave cash or use their pin machine. A great restful place in this beautiful city.

Worth popping into when exploring Utrecht
The Dom is worth popping into when exploring Utrecht, a beautiful old cathedral right in the middle of Utrecht's city centre. While the Dom tower used to be connected to the cathedral a storm destroyed the nave of the church which seperated the tower from the cathedral. The nave was never rebuilt and turned into the Dom square. The cathedral itself has tall ceiling and a few beautiful stained glass windows worth to be admired.

    A very unusual cathedral
This Gothic Cathedral is well worth a visit, not only to see the beautiful Gothic architecture and stained glass, but also because you will not see something like it anywhere. The nave collapsed in the 17th century and was never rebuilt thus to experience the real feel of the whole Cathedral you must visit the inside and the outside of the Cathedral, the Dom Square which has the nave plotted out in the pavement. A visit to the DOMunder will also help a lot.
