History comes alive
In 1804, an army camp was established near Zeist, led by the French general de Marmont. The camp included three army units, two of which were French and one Batavian. The Marmont, who had been campaigning with Napoleon in Egypt in 1798, wanted to have an eternal memory point for himself and had the soldiers build a pyramid from loam. This was based on the pyramid of Giza. The pyramid was ready on October 4, 1804. Eventually she was renamed the 'pyramid of Austerlitz', partly because the troops from the camp had fought in this battle. The pyramid of Austerlitz is not far from the village of Austerlitz, near to the N224.

Short stop in combination with other activities
Coming from Belgium, knowing the history of Napoleon (e.g. waterloo), it was interesting to visit this place as well. Teach my son and myself some history. I had some mixed feelings, on one hand you get good information on the history, on the other hand, it feels like the focus is on the fun part with the theme park for kids. The monument itself... it is what it is and each can have his/her thoughts about it. No regrets we made the stop, but don't spend too much time here.

Pyramide visit
Historically interesting, however the climb up the pyramid and the view from the top are less spectacular. Since there are lots of forests you do not really see a lot. Still nice to stop by if you are in the area.
