Military Museums • History Museums

Bezoek aan dit kleine museum is zeker de moeite waard. Naast een rondleiding binnen en een korte film kun je zelf buiten op de grebbelinie kijken, waar oa een loopgraaf is nagemaakt. De gids die ons vertelde over het museum wist er erg veel van en deelde veel boeiende verhalen. Indrukwekkend was het verhaal over zijn vader, wiens foto terecht in het museum hangt. De collectie in het museum wordt telkens uitgebreid. Persoonlijk vond ik dit een mooier en informatiever museum dan het bezoekerscentrum grebbelinie.

In 1804, an army camp was established near Zeist, led by the French general de Marmont. The camp included three army units, two of which were French and one Batavian. The Marmont, who had been campaigning with Napoleon in Egypt in 1798, wanted to have an eternal memory point for himself and had the soldiers build a pyramid from loam. This was based on the pyramid of Giza. The pyramid was ready on October 4, 1804. Eventually she was renamed the 'pyramid of Austerlitz', partly because the troops from the camp had fought in this battle. The pyramid of Austerlitz is not far from the village of Austerlitz, near to the N224. See more..
