Ipoh World (IpohWorld) is an education-based, not-for-profit organisation established in 2004 to promote awareness and appreciation of Perak, the Silver State of Malaysia and its unique, diverse and rich heritage, with particular focus on Ipoh and the Kinta Valley. In 2006 we ran our first public exhibition "The Story of Ipoh: From Feet to Flight", in cooperation with Darul Ridzuan Museum. This is a very educational and well-maintained museum. Established in the late 1880s, the Perak Museum is the oldest museum in Malaysia. It has a diverse collection of almost everything about Perak including a section exhibiting old animal skeletons. Walking through this museum is like a journey through time. In the main hall, there is a massive collection of niello-ware made from silver and copper (as we’re told by the museum staff). It is called Cutam in Malay. I’ve never heard a Malay word ‘Cutam’ before and that was the first time I saw Cutam. The cultural gallery displays local handicrafts, clothing, musical instruments and artworks aged more than 100 years old. Sometimes old stuff can be eery and interesting at the same time. We found one mannequin wearing vintage pink kebaya with weird head (see attached picture). Besides this ghostly feeling, we enjoyed our trip to this museum very much. Kota Ngah Ibrahim Museum is located in the outskirts of Ipoh, not popular but worth the visit. Historical information of Ngah Ibrahim. The museum is the house where he stayed and was a fort long ago, remnants of the wall can still be seen. We were lucky to visit as it was due to be closed for renovation for the next few months. There's some history on J W Birch as well as the occupation of the Japanese in Malaya. Good to visit if you like history.... or just to see some of the artifacts.See more..
Walked into this place by chance, expecting a beer & burger. It’s actually a Chinese restaurant that looks like a UK pub. Great atmosphere, fun & friendly staff, good food & beer etc if you want. Positively they allow clients to bring their own wine / brandy as long as you order a meal (pp). This is a great attraction, wine is so expensive in restaurants, & relatively cheap in the supermarket. Food was v good; my wife & I had a great evening there. Try ! Enjoy See more..
