4.5Yasmin At Kong Heng(44 reviews) - Intimate and Inspirational Thursday: Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
Yasmin Ahmad's commercials and movies struck a chord with many a local (and more than a few from abroad) for their honest portrayal of the beauty of everyday Malaysian life. She showed us ordinary, flawed human beings who are capable of being extraordinary - of achieving great things and great happiness, because love and kinship triumph above all else. It is our ultimate goal to propagate this spirit of universal harmony through Yasmin's philosophies that she channelled through her many works. If life imitates art as well as the other way round, we can think of no better purpose to establish an outlet for such artistic expressions to flourish freely. THE YASMIN AHMAD MUSEUM: Yasmin At Kong Heng A resource centre as well as unconventional 'museum' curated with the objective of educating and inspiring others to write film or commercial scripts of their own. It is a small but flexible space where the late Yasmin Ahmad's spirit, love, wisdom and sense of humour can continue inspiring the next generation. The location of Kong Heng in Ipoh was chosen for its proximity to many of the locales where Yasmin shot her famous films. It will not be a conventional museum for a 'dead person's things' or stagnant archives with permanent plaques. Instead, Yasmin At Kong Heng is an evolving space with content that is refreshed every 6 months to 1 year. Yasmin's life's work - whether in film, poetry, photography, TV and even print advertising - will be shared in a "newseum" that inspires and springboards new talent and ideas. And, in the near future, we want to make it a place for local creative talent to shine - from students and aspiring filmmakers to new artists who need an exhibition space.See more..
4.0Kinta Tin Mining Museum(37 reviews) - Very educational but not maintained Speciality Museums
To our surprise, this museum is located next to a petrol station, next to Nasi Kandar restaurant and a supermarket! The authority should relocate it to a more suitable and proper place. It was only a few minutes walk from Grand Kampar Hotel. There’s many old machine used in the mining industry displayed in the museum. Unfortunately, the outdoor area displaying all these are not properly taken care of! Weeds growing in between the machines, some human statues depicting the mining worker were broken but not replaced or fixed. I hope the authority will do something to this place in order to preserve the history for the next generation. See more..

4.0Gopeng Museum(28 reviews) - travel back in time! Speciality Museums
Coming here seemed like teleportation back a 100 years ago. every thing retro (well almost) brings old timer like me down memory lane !! The fascinating aspects seemed to be natural ventilation and the 3rd floor (penthouse?!!) seems grandeur considering the setting 100 years ago. Wonder what they do for kicks those days without electricity let alone TV or PCs. Leave much to your imagination but then again the rich folks are said to have more than 1 wife!! As for plumbing read toilets don't look for one on the upper floors. in case the younger generation doesn't know , they use potties !! ugh!!! I don t think I want to live in that era. Thanks for preserving the heritage ! A must visit if you want to know how rich folks live those days!! Thumbs up!!! See more..
Walked into this place by chance, expecting a beer & burger. It’s actually a Chinese restaurant that looks like a UK pub. Great atmosphere, fun & friendly staff, good food & beer etc if you want. Positively they allow clients to bring their own wine / brandy as long as you order a meal (pp). This is a great attraction, wine is so expensive in restaurants, & relatively cheap in the supermarket. Food was v good; my wife & I had a great evening there. Try ! Enjoy See more..

4.0Telegraph Museum(6 reviews) - Hidden gem in Taiping town. Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums • Science Museums
This little gem of a museum was an accidental find. Tucked in a little corner of the Taiping Laman Budaya just off Station Road. This historic building was the first Telegraph built in Malaysia during the British colonial days. It was in disrepair until it was restored and renovated to its reincarnation today. The museum itself contains a rich history of the progress of the beginning of the Telegraph system to its modern counterpart of telecommunications system. The displays are impressive and the guide that is stationed at the reception is well versed in the history of the museum.See more..
