We had come a long way to see this. And I myself was pleasantly surprised as it isnt my thing, my husband chose the location to visit. But it was beautiful. We got there ar 545pm on June 9 and the visitors centre was closing at 6 and they werent allowing people to drive up the road till 9am the next morning. But the view of the area were amazing, the lighting added to that. It is well worth a visit. We had a quick look around the visitors centre which was very informative even for the short amount of time we were in there. We came back the following morning for opening at 9am so we could drive up to the top. What lovely views. There is a little walk you can do for more pics. You will need to keep small children under control as I cant remember any railings. See more..

Beautiful natural great plains park. Tall grasses, not a whole lot of trees but enough. boat ramp and lot of walking trails. Like to go there to relax - you can always find a place where you can be alone. Deer, turkeys, lots of birds and critters. Don't have little ones but plenty of playgrounds. well kept and clean (even the potties). See more..

This bridge in Valentine is close to the western trail head. Public can walk, run or bike out onto this bridge for breathtaking views! The path approaching the bridge is well maintained and if you're lucky, you'll see little lizards skittering across. My mother in law walked the entire Cowboy Trail in August. She packed her own tent and stopped every now and again in the towns along the way. It took her close to 2 weeks but she loved the adventure and highly recommends it to anyone. See more..
  4. 4.5 Saddle Rock Trail (17 reviews)
    - Great Hike - Especially Downhill
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Saddle Rock Trail image
We hiked the Saddle Rock Trail in late August in the morning. Just because the trailhead sign for Saddle Rock Trail is at the bottom of the bluff, it doesn't mean you have to start here. Park Service operates a free shuttle called the Summit Shuttle, where you can pick up at the Visitor's Center. We took the shuttle to the top, listening as our driver Doug, a volunteer, entertained and informed us with stories, facts and legends of the area. Once at the top, we took the Saddle Rock Trail back down to the Visitor's Center, getting a close up look and marveling at the geologic formations along the way. We were also treated to some beautiful views of the valley below during our hike. The trail is paved and is a little over 1-1/2 miles. This is a great hike - downhill. See more..

In September I take a solo trip to areas I’ve never been before always off the beaten path I did a western tour, Colorado Wyoming Montana, North Dakota South Dakota Kansas staying off the Interstate,I stayed in valentine for two Nights at a wonderful small motel , the trade winds,I toured around the back roads of the Sandhills went to a cowboy shoot at the fairgrounds which was really really cool ,valentine is on US Route 20 the route I live on but it’s 1400 miles east and the geography is very different. I probably flew over valentine on my way to Denver to start my trip politicians refer to this as flyover country ,these places are the most magically wonderful areas of our country the people are friendly hard-working and great to talk to,so instead of going to Disneyland Las Vegas New York City or some other ridiculous place go to the Real USA valentine Nebraska See more..

We packed a picnic lunch and ate at one of the many picnic tables. There was also a fish hatchery that our kids loved walking around. We took our kids on the longer loop hike with our toddler in a backpack and enjoyed a nice, shady hike. Small fee to get in or admission is included with a Nebraska state parks pass. See more..

I liked the Horse Park in North Platte. There were trees to keep us in the shade. There is 10 acres of water and 40 acres of land. I saw a fisherman, trying to get some fish. There are a lot of picnic tables, perfect for a meal. Hiking is also worthwhile to explore. Worthwhile! See more..
