4.5Lake McConaughy(188 reviews) - Get your beach fix Bodies of Water
Lake McConaughy is the perfect place to get your beach fix in the middle of the country. The white sand is soft and beautiful and the lake was perfect for swimming. We had a wonderful time building sand castles, swimming, watching the sunset, building bonfires at night and enjoying s’mores. We will definitely make this an annual trip. We moved from Oregon a couple years ago and desperately miss the beach. Although it’s not the ocean, Lake Mac is the next best thing!See more..

Beautiful natural great plains park. Tall grasses, not a whole lot of trees but enough. boat ramp and lot of walking trails. Nice lake to relax and watch the clouds go by. Lots and lots of campsites along the banks of the lake. Basic camping sites for tents ($15/night) are in good condition, and camper sites are plentiful and most are in shaded areas.See more..
4.5Lake Minatare(26 reviews) - Great time on Lake Minatare! Bodies of Water
We decided to go boating on our trip to Scottsbluff and had a great time. Lots of people were tubing, fishing, water skiing and jet skiing on the lake. After we did a bit of tubing, we decided to troll in and fish along the way back to the dock. We caught (and released) a nearly 15 inch walleye. There are 2 boat ramps (one paved and one gravel) to put your boat in and on the other side of the lake is a swim beach (we checked that out too!) I would go back for sure if we ever get back to the Scottsbluff area again. It was great! I have pictures, but this is a new listing (I'm shocked!) and I can't post them yet. Hopefully later!See more..
4.5Prairie Queen Recreation Area(17 reviews) - Community Fishing Night by Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Community Fishing Night by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission was really nice for us with our son and two young grandsons! They had a lot of fun catching fish even though we arrived late! Staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. Free bait was provided and poles were available.See more..
Always a great place to camp and to fish. We love this park. Staff always helpful and kind. Stay in the Lakeside camping area, next to the lake to fish. Quiet and well taken care of . Staff kept to the Covid 19 precautions. Also enjoyed the hiking areas through the woods, and along the Platte River. We stay here each year to visit family in the area.See more..
We love camping here. The park is well taken care of. Lots of friendly campers around. The camp hosts are friendly and welcoming. It’s quiet at night which we enjoy. The shower houses could use a little work but other than that we highly recommend camping here. See more..
I camped here and absolutely loved it. There are several campground areas so none of them seemed to be over crowded or too loud. The lake was clean enough for swimming and boating. It is about a 20-30 minute drive to Valentine so the access is still easy if you want to go out to eat or explore the Valentine area. The scenery was great and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to get off the beaten path.See more..

3.5Memphis Lake State Recreation Area(3 reviews) - Hidden gem. Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks A very quiet State Rec area. A tornado a few years back threw leaves into the lake. When they decomposed they took all of the oxygen out of the water and all the fish died. They took this as an opportunity to dredge it, add fish jetty's and other additions to create a healthier lake. Great spot for families.See more..
Located just five miles south of town, the Sutherland Reservoir is our home lake. On the south shore of the lake is the Oregon Trail Golf Course and campground. There are electrical and water hookups, plus a dump station right next to a beautiful 9 hole golf course. On the south east shore of the lake, what locals call Hershey Beach is a boat dock and primitive camping with a beautiful sand beach. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission provides vault toilets, and you must have a state park permit to enter here. On the west side of the lake at the inlet, there is primitive camping and a boat dock, plus a fish cleaning station. You need a park permit for this area as well. The lake itself is 3,000 acres, so perfect for water sports and fishing.See more..
4.5Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest(3 reviews) - Relaxing Place Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Dams

4.0Davis Creek Reservoir(2 reviews) - great little lake. Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water Campgrounds are quite new and well maintained. Two separate launch ramps with dock. The lake is a bit out of the way which makes it nice as there are often fewer boats on the lake. Fishing has never been too productive for us but others have had success. There is fishing pier for non-boaters. Lake has numerous coves to explore by boat. Shoreline is mostly tree lined, not at all developed and offers some spectacular color in the fall. Water was way down when we visited in Sept. 2020. Watch your sonar for shallow spots.See more..
First time here, when the lake was rather low for dam toe drain replacement, still busy with people on a summer Sunday afternoon. Nice campsite deep in trees, and a fun kayak tour of the lake. However, was disappointed by the new and old trash all over campgrounds and out on the shorelines. It doesn't appear that anyone cares enough to do regular clean-up, including park staff. I picked up and deposited a lot of stray garbage.See more..
4.5Iron Horse Park(2 reviews) - Great for fishing, walking and picnics Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
I liked the Horse Park in North Platte. There were trees to keep us in the shade. There is 10 acres of water and 40 acres of land. I saw a fisherman, trying to get some fish. There are a lot of picnic tables, perfect for a meal. Hiking is also worthwhile to explore. Worthwhile!See more..
4.0Cheyenne State Recreation Area(1 review) - Place for a picnic Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds While driving along I-80 it's easy to get sucked into the monotony of guardrails and fast food. However, within feet of Interstate exit 300 is a state rec area with picnic tables, a lake, and even a bit of nature. Get off the highway and have a picnic. If you didn't bring food, pick up lunch from the Subway at the same exit and bring it to the rec area; it's much better than eating at the gas station Subway!See more..

5.0Eagle Scout Park(1 review) - Nice park for a walk Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Parks
I chose Eagle Scout for my morning walk. It's about a 1.2 mile walk around the lake. There are many opportunities for bird watching while you walk or taking photographs. When I was out there the boat dock needed repair work and was not functional.See more..
