The 'Poke takes pride in its selection of beer and huge servings of food from the heartland. After a recommendation from a clerk at a nearby service station a friend and I stopped in for an early supper. I had a hearty meal of ribs, beans and 'slaw, and I appreciated that the coleslaw was homemade (tangy!). My traveling buddy had a smothered burrito platter-- hot, spicy and filling with homemade spanish rice. All this was washed down with icy cold beer. Food and drinks arrived promptly. The waitress was friendly, chatting with us about local Thedford happenings. The restrooms were spare, but clean. We were there on a Friday night, and a number of locals drifted in to watch Ice Hockey on the big TV screens. If you are looking for lots of good food at reasonable prices, this is the place. There is nothing fancy, but clean, quick friendly service with lots of options on their menu. Is this a dive?, in a way, yes, but a nice one with large portions of food and family friendly. We ordered the waffle nacho fries as an appetizer, complete with meat, cheese, scallions, and the 4 of us could not finish it. We had heard of their large burgers, so we tried 4 different ones, all were excellent and included potato chips; tater tots or waffle fries were extra. The standard hamburger was $4.00, the cheeseburger was $5.00, I ordered it with all the extras (tomato, lettuce, pickles) which ran the price up to $5.50. The size of burger was 1/3 pound and 2 of our 4 people could only eat half. The other selections were a patty melt, philly cheeseburger and swiss chees mushroom burger, all served hot and juicy. The signature dish, which we did not try, was a fried cheeseburger. The special, that evening, was a chicken fried steak, of which we saw many people ordering. There was a kids menu, basket fry choices and entrees which included shrimp and steak. Thursdays the only food served is Mexican, tacos and such. The total bill including the appetizer, 4 burgers and 5 adult beverages for 4 people was $54.00, excluding tip. It appeared that this is a family run business, the chef was the wife and husband was bartender/cashier. Their niece was our waitress who was nice, helpful and patient, (we sometimes can try the patience of our waitresses, just kidding!) The building is over 100 years old, there was a large bar with 3 large TV's, which they were will willing to change to any channel to satisfy their customers. There was a shuffleboard table and outdoor beer garden. This is about 1/2 hour drive northwest of Omaha toward Norfolk, but worth the adventuresome drive if you are so inclined.See more..

On the day of our visit the City of Wayne was having their annual Chicken Festival so the taproom was quite crowded. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but on our visit it was just too hot to sit on the patio. The brewery looks very nice from the outside, but the bar area can definitely be improved. Along with their beers, they offer various mixed cocktails and they were pouring plenty of both while we were there. We purchased a few beers and found them to be average as far as taste. Yes, there was an award winning beer among the taps, but the others just didn't excite us. It is a neat small town brewery so if your in the area give them a try.
