Retz Calvary/Kalvarienberg We made the Calvary on “Windmill Hill” our hiking destination in Retz. A convenient one-hour train ride from Vienna it’s a very different world out there. Weekday’s a sleepy little town near Vienna. Hiking up from the old city wall through vineyards, overlooking miles of vine clad. Don’t follow the road – look for one of several trails. Aim for the windmill as a landmark – the Calvary is just next to it!See more..
On the start or end of the walking zone, the classic monument you can find in most towns. This one is from 1714. Was a great sunny day, best to view from the walking street and a bit of distance. Nice little square around with parking. Common place to meet up with people.See more..

Die Dreifaltigkeitssäule befindet sich mitten auf dem Hauptplatz in Retz in Niederösterreich. Der Platz ist sehr schön angelegt, wobei sich hier auch das alte Rathaus befindet.Ein Blickfang auf dem Platz ist auch das Verderberhaus, ein mehrteiliger, zinnenbekrönter Gebäudekomplex mit den Hausnummern 2 und 34. Es ist ein frühneuzeitliches Bürgerhaus mit einer Fassade im venezianischen Renaissancestil. Mit der verschiedenartigen Zinnenbekrönung wurde die unterschiedliche Höhe der gotischen Vorgängerbauten ausgeglichen.See more..
Built in 1713/14 on the central market square. The holy trinity is enthroned on it in baroque style. On the parapet there 9 statues of the saints and tge imnaculate on the base is from the archangels. Quite big and interesting .See more..
Die Stadt Klosterneuburg lässt es sich etwas kosten dieses Denkmal gut restauriert zu halten. Absolut sehenswert!See more..

Fits well to these times, small memorial just by the school. It is the oldest one in town. Built in 1493 as a thanks for survivong the smallpox epidemic. It is on a old pilgrims route.See more..

Left me sort of depressed. Not sure if it is still under construction but it is surrounded by containers. The inside is almost entirely empty. Views are ok.See more..

Just a short walk uphill, it is not more then a 10 minutes to get to the top where the cross stands and you have a nice view there. It is rather steep walk up do take care. The cross is over 5 m high and around are st. Maria, St. John and st mary magdalkena kneeling. Was built in 1700s and later restored in 1800s. It is a replica. The crucifixion is the 12 station of 14 parts on this route and you can pass then on your way down to perchtoldsdorfSee more..
When in lockdown walking and seeing is the only thing left to do, not easy to find as there are several statues and buildings around. Close to the main train station and not exactly the center but still not far. Was a nice sunny day so that made it better. See more..
