4.5Museum Carnuntinum(27 reviews) - Compact insights into Roman organisation Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
The Carnuntinum Museum is a must for every visit to Carnuntum. It was built by Friedrich Ohmann and August Kirstein, two of the most respected architects of the late Austro-Hungarian Empire, and opened in 1904 by Emperor Franz Josef I himself. Built in the spirit of historicism in the style of a Roman country villa, the design takes up typical architectural elements from the Roman provinces. From June 30, 2022, the museum will present a brand new exhibition: Carnuntum - Weltstadt am Donaulimes. On the basis of exhibits from the collections of the province of Lower Austria, some of which have never been shown before, the history of the city, but also its social life, will be impressively portrayed. The Museum Carnuntinum is thus the ideal starting point for a journey of discovery through the Roman city of Carnuntum.See more..
4.0MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach(23 reviews) - Great Stonehenge exhibition Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • Science Museums • Art Museums • Children's Museums
In 2021, the MAMUZ Museum in Mistelbach dedicates itself to the legendary culture of the Maya by providing a comprehensive Mayan exhibition in Austria for the first time in 25 years. The exhibition takes an in-depth look at the habitat of the Maya in the tropical lowlands as well as in the volcanic highlands of Guatemala. How come that the Maya were able to achieve such a cultural flowering despite the difficult environmental conditions? How did they organise their coexistence? And what were the causes of the collapse of this high culture? The exhibition comprises more than 200 original objects from Central America of which many exhibits are presented in Europe for the first time. A special highlight is the large number of exhibits made of jade. Latest research results based on archaeological excavations and translation work of the Mayan script also shed new light on the social and cultural life of this advanced civilisation.See more..
4.5MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya(20 reviews) - Interesting with loads of potential Spent 2-3 hours Natural History Museums • Science Museums • Art Museums • Children's Museums
MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya gives visitors the opportunity to really experience 40,000 years of history. The exhibition invites visitors of all ages to experience history at interactive stations – seeing, for example, how tricky it is to make a copy of a longhouse in miniature form. Just by looking at the setup and design of the building, visitors can already see that MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya contains a highly varied and fascinating history of the human race. The exhibition and the open-air site alone leave room for imagination. In addition, the museum also hosts events to give visitors the opportunity to celebrate alongside the Celts and Huns. With historical handcraft, hardworking people are asked to get an idea of how a bow is made or iron is smelted.See more..

4.0Museum St. peter an der Sperr(11 reviews) - Fantastic Exhibition of Ernst Fuchs Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Museums • History Museums
This was not my first trip to Wiener Neustadt, but my first visit for this excellent museum. I attended the opening of the Ernst Fuchs exhibition which was also a celebration of the 25 year installation of Ernst Fuchs' Mosesbrunnen (Moses Fountain) on the nearby Domplatz. As a artist, I have been a live-long follower of Ernst Fuchs, familiar with most of his work. It was therefore a surprise for me to see, among works I was familiar with, also pieces that had never been publicly shown. Kudos to the team of curators that worked together for putting this in the best possible light, from his earliest works up to his latest one gets a rounded overview of the many facets of Ernst Fuchs artistic output.See more..

4.5Kaiser Franz Josef Museum(10 reviews) - Visit to Kaiser Franz Josef Museum Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
This is a lovely little provincial museum. It has five rooms, covering: 1. Military history 2. Handicrafts & cottage industry 3. Sacred / religious items 4. Life for ordinary people in Baden in 19th century 5. The Kaiser and aristocracy in Baden. It is very well presented, and a nice mixture of genres which give a sense of the different sides of Baden throughout the last 200 years. Plus, the cafe outside has a wonderful view of the city. There are walks in the woods around the museum. Be warned, if you are approaching on foot or bike, it is up a steep hill!See more..
4.0Volkskunde-Museum(9 reviews) - Wee gem of a museum Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
Loved this small museum. Quiet and off the beaten track it was perfect for an interesting visit which did not eat up too much time in our short stay. It was interesting in that it was typical Austrian artefacts from agricultural communities in the main rather than the finest of goods- so lots of tools, household objects, furniture, etc and two beautiful panelled rooms. There was also a collection of painted Easter eggs dating back to 1895. I particularly liked the bee hives carved from tree trunks, the beautiful painted scenes used as practice targets for marksmen and the room devoted to stereotypes which were amusing. I was astonished to find a C19 recognisable baby walker complete with casters all carved in wood. There is a lovely garden and cafe where you can enjoy a drink before you rejoin the bustle of the main attractions in townSee more..
5.0Museum of the Battle of Wagram 1809(8 reviews) - Well worth a visit Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • Speciality Museums • History Museums
My wife and I visited the Museum on Sunday 7 Oct 2018. It was really impressive - lots of interesting exhibits and a really large display of model soldiers (photos attached). The staff on duty were really friendly and welcoming. If you are at all interested in military history or Napoleon/Archduke Charles, this museum is for you. Easy to get to (we took the train from Vienna). There are cold drinks available on site and we had excellent coffee & cake in a bakery in the village. It made my Sunday!See more..
Sehenswert. Auch der Film dazu.See more..
While the museum might not look like much at a first glance, our private tour of the buildings was very entertaining for adults and kids alike. Our guide was dressed in Germanic clothing and the first thing she did was to show us how the people back then made fire. That most definitely broke the ice for everyone involved. You could see that our guide was very enthusiastic about the museum and the time she was acquainting us with. She was perfect with the kids, but the tour was targeted at adults as well. Unfortunately our group didn't have enough time to do the whole tour, but we will most certainly return for that as soon as possible. There is a Germanic festival with manufacturers of many different trades on October 26. I'm sure that this would be highly entertaining.See more..

4.5Langenzersdorf Museum(3 reviews) - Fabulous Sculpture Gallery Spent < 1 hour Art Museums • History Museums
Fabulous gallery that’s well worth the short train ride from the centre of Vienna. From Cubism to Contemporary, the Langenzersdorf Museum offers a superb collection of Austrian’s best twentieth-century sculptors including Siegfried Charoux (who was elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, London) and Anton Hanak - both artists were celebrated for their figurative sculptures – there are also Alois Heidel’s brightly coloured dramatic abstracts. These works are exhibited in a lovely airy and impressive modern gallery and extensive sculpture garden where special exhibitions and concerts are also scheduled.See more..

The Institute for the Study of Jewish History is an incredibly important research facility documenting Jewish life from before the Shoah and connecting people and family with their roots. Once a very large Jewish population, there is only one Jewish person left in St. Poeltin, but the Institute is dedicated to researching this rich history and connecting Descendants of Family Worshipers. Architecturally and artistically the facility has been restored to pristine condition. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to please. It is advised to let them know in advance you are coming as it is a research institute.
