    Dybboel Banke History Centre image
In the History Centre Dybbol Banke you step directly into the events of the dramatic war of 1864. You become be part of the drama and you will learn more about one of the most important battles in the Danish history. Experience history with all your senses: When you enter the territory, you will hear how the thunder of cannons is blended with the shouting and crying of injured soldiers. Go on your journey of exploration and find out, how a correct redoubt is built. Look into the barracks in the "soldiers' town" behind the front where the young and tired soldiers try to get some rest between the bloody battles. The war 1864 resulted in the disappearance of the multinational Danish nation state. Denmark developed into a national small state and got a part of Southern Jutland in form of Schleswig back. Prussia grew into the expanding German Empire which later sank and developed then into the Federal Republic Germany we know today. Therefore, the war in Dybbol is a central landmark in the European history. If you are ready to occupy the History Centre, then we are ready to offer you a very special adventure. Fascinating, entertaining, but also really serious. See more..

    Frilandsmuseet Hjerl Hede image
We have had a season pass for the last few years, so we usually come some times every year. The environment is beautiful and the old houses match perfectly and give the feeling of going back in time. If you come during the time when the museum comes alive with reenactors, there's a lot to look at and experience, but even outside these times, it is a very nice place to just go for a walk (It's a couple or three kilometers around the whole premises). There's also a nice playground for the children and a good restaurant. See more..

We are 3 adults with 2 kids of 6 and 4.5 years old. We were all happy even though none of us knows much about military nor war. Visitors can touch and sit and clim everything unless otherwise stated. The collection was massive and impressive, ranging from transport to guns to missiles to all kinds of equipments I don’t even recall what they are called anymore. In the courtyard, there were several tanks and military vehicles visitors can climb in. Kids loved the paddles cars in the spacious courtyard. We spent about 2 hours there. If we had brought lunch, we could have easily spent more time there. They offer combi tickets with the Springeren (submarine) Maritime museum. Great savings. Aalborg street food hall is just 1km walk away, which is 400m away from the Springeren maritime museum. Convenient to visit both on same day. See more..

    Samso Museum image
After checking out the old farm yard (closed, with access from the main museum in the old creamery up the street), we went into the museum. We were shown an historic film and told about exhibits. The Central room was all about schools, with several small rooms showing examples of different time periods. What was most interesting to me was further along - an inside/outside area where children could learn about the past through experiencing it. There was a hollowed out wooden boat which children could paddle, cannon they could prepare and fire,a huge stone they could move using rollers, and even a halved and hollowed oak tree section for trying ancient grave practices. Inside, they could try the ancient art of painting on limestone of the inside walls of churches, and other historic practices. It is an excellent learning laboratory. See more..
