På Samsø findes der 5 smukke middelalderkirker, hvoraf kirken i Tranebjerg er den største. Den er højt beliggende i den vestlige ende af byen og er overraskende stor og rummelig. Den har et anseeligt tårn. Lige ved kirken findes den gamle smukke kirkelade. Hertil kom bønderne i tidligere tid og afleverede deres tiende i form af korn.
