History told through the lives of the dead

Home to most church model ships in any church in Denmark. Unlike most other churches, the models here are not donated by stranded seafarer as a thank for rescue. Rather they are made by locals as a gratitude to their local church. Do not miss the old gravestones in front of the organ: Long stories about the lives of the deceased (a tradition known from other Wattwn Sea islands, e.g. Amrum and Föhr in Northern Germany.

Super passionate Guide - Robert PEEL
Was enjoying the charming houses and a car drove by and stopped in front of us. The driver, Robert greeted us and offered to show us something right ahead. Intrigued, we met him there, only to be enlightened by his stories of the history of this island, as shown on a wall mural. He asked us to meet him later at the church when we are done with other sights. Very thankful to have a 1.5hrs informative and interactive tour by Robert. Wowed by his detailed, humorous tales and his passion to show us his beloved island home. He asked us for a favour at the end. Not for money, but to leave a note in TripAdvisor so more people will know about this lovely place. ?? How sweet..

    Amazing experience
We visited Fanø for first time without any plans about what we liked to see. While enjoying our ice cream we were approached by an older charming man, Robert Peel, a guide who lives on the island. He started to talk to us and invited us to a guided tour which we accepted. He walked us through the history of Fanø and showed us the church and the amazing traditions they had and still maintain. If you are planning a visit to Fanø you should contact Robert and ask him to show you around. He does it so well and with a dash of humor.
