Go inside

The exterior is nothing special but the unusual frescoes and decorations inside make a brief stop here worthwhile.

    An amazing concert and visit.
This is a beautiful cathedral. We heard Mozart's Reqieum performed here on May 25, 2019. It was a truly breathtaking experience. Would highly recommend searching their website for concert information - in addition to just visiting the building itself.

13th century and yet modern minimalistic
The a Cathedral has several surprisingly impressive impacts; firstly when you go from a app. 100m tall and still discrete tower appearance to a very small entry reception and then open the door to an app. 100m impressively long and spectacular church hall: it's a roller coaster feeling. Then again, for a 13th century church you find a beautiful minimalistic interior with the most surprisingly stunning murals, eg. the delicate woman on the left hand side only 30m down the aisle, really odd and funny actually. Then when you dig into the story about the fact that the church was dedicated the 8th century pope and Århus' Patron Saint St. Clemens, you suddenly understand why the city has anchors all over and you find yourself discovering 50 something anchors around the interior decorations. My favourite is the powerful sculpture of a hand tightly holding the anchor upside down. It is a surreal reference to St.Clemens' murder as he was thrown into sea with an anchor around his neck and apparently surfaced with the anchor in his hand anchoring the people's faith; it is a surreal materialisation of the gesture with only the hand itself exiting the wall - and it is surreally placed in the main speaker platform almost as a weapon stabbing the priest in the back. Anyway, this may be my imagination carrying me away, but have a look at it yourself and please don't miss a visit to the extraordinary church with so many stories to be found.
