How to use old bunkers

The Danish architectural firm BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group, has created a spectacular setting for a new attraction hidden underneath the sand, in the protected dune landscape near Blaavand. The museum has three permanent exhibitions, a gallery for special exhibitions, an original bunker from WW2, a cafe and a shop.

    Excellent museum
The Tirpitz museum was designed by famous architect Bjarke Ingels. It is a fascinating structure, designed to fit into the surrounding area in an execellent way. The museum describes the WW2 period and it is actually possible to visit the remains of one of the bunkers, intended to house heavy artillery. The museum is quite large and also have sections with interesting local history of the western coast.

    Architecture dominates content
This museum has five parts: The bunker, the mines, the landscape and culture, the people and amber. This is a bit overwhelming and not really logical. The bunker is impressive, the mine section is very well explained, the landscape part is oversold, and the people section really thought provoking. The 4D landscape history show was overdone: visual and sound effects with little content. The cafe is nice and friendly priced. The architecture is impressive, but the balance between form and content is biased to the form.
