Originally we were gonna see 'Pura Gunung Kawi' temple with big statues but our driver got mixed up and took us to 'Gunung Kawi Sebatu' - both similar names and close to each other so easy to make mistake We were so happy though that we ended up here as at the time there was a local ceremony and to witness Balinese culture first hand was an AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Because of the ceremony the complex was decorated in stunning flowers, Balinese people were dressed up beautifully and women carried the fruit offerings on top of their heads. The whole place just looked MAGICAL, filled with burning incenses, clear water ponds, gorgeous carvings. Very peaceful temple not touristy as others. See more..

The Pura Luhur Batukaru lies in solitary clearing 1,300 meters above the sea level, all around the Batukaru temple you'll find a garden of flowering frangipani and hibiscus, with a gigantic, inhabited, humid tropical forest all around it. The impressive placed Batukaru is situated on the slopes of Mount Batukaru since the 11th century, which is an especially sacred site, even by Balinese standards. That's why all visitors have to carefully read and abide the temple rules posted clearly at the entrance. The temple is high on the slopes of the mountain and the often misty, drizzly micro-climate here just adds to its undoubtedly mystical atmosphere. Due to the cool climate and high rainfall (has the highest rainfall on Bali), the shrines in this temple are covered by moss See more..

We travelled here after an hour or so swimming in the public swimming baths, Holy Hot Springs. It was a mere 20,000 Ruplah and being female was provided with a Sarong, my little boy wanted to wear one too and they allowed him to join in! This was my first temple and it was breathtaking, there looked to be a school trip and the children all smiled politely and said 'Hello' in English. There were English translations readily available on description boards and it's so far removed from a Christian Church that you immediatedly feel a sense of culture. We travelled from Kubutambahan and had a great day out! See more..

    - Beautiful cavern, temple, and experience!
Friday: 5:00 PM - 10:00 AM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Mysterious Sites • Religious Sites
    Giri Putri Cave image
Not very hard to find, but is not hard to drive past the sign and miss the parking lot with the warung across the street, you'll know you passed it and need to turn around. The climb up to the entrance is pretty as you can turn and see the beach, but the hike is steep. At the top you'll be greeted by local people asking for donation (common at other temples in Bali as well) and providing water/pictures. The opening is very tight, so make sure you're okay with about a 3 foot by 2 foot opening and it stays that tight for about 20 yards into the cave. It does open up A LOT after that so brave the claustrophobia for a bit and you'll be astounded at the view once inside. Only locals are allowed at the actual temple, however you can walk around and off the walkway to see some of the cave (we thought it was respectful, however to stay on the walkway), because once you get to the main portion (where the locals climb up to pray and give offering) the walkway ends, and you leave the walkway and leave a different way you came in. You don't have to climb back out the tiny opening, you'll end up walking out a gated area, and prepare for about 20 minutes walk around the mountain and through the community back to the parking lot. Amazing experience! See more..

We are always looking for a half or day outing and wanted something different, we had not been into the Tanjung Benoa, area so a small trip was planned. Our driver took us to this small but interesting Buddhist temple situated near the sea at the bottom of the Tanjung Benoa peninsular. Upon arrival we parked in a small carpark between a Balinese Hindu Temple and the Buddhist temple, we walk to both temples (0nly a few meters either way). Though this was only part of the planned trip the temples and the immediate area were interesting. The Buddhist temple apparently is one of the oldest (though it almost looks new). Some of the deities we obviously very old. It was worth the visit. Remember to take your shoes of before entering. See more..

    Pura Batu Bolong image
Beautiful coastline of multiple temples. Before you get to the pathway along the ocean where the temples are located, you can have your taxi or Grab driver drop you off outside the gate. If the driver drops you off inside, you’ll have to pay the car entry fee. Before walking towards the coastline, you’ll walk through a shopping area where there are bathrooms, restaurants, cafés, and local craft merchants. I’ve been told most people go and watch the sunset here. We went in the middle of the day and the view of the coastline is breathtaking as well as viewing the ancient temples. If my memory is correct, you can only enter one of the temples if you have appropriate clothing. It was difficult to confirm a Grab driver for a pick-up so I highly recommend if you can’t find one, the taxi stand in the main parking lot has set pricing based on the district you’re traveling to.
