We passed by on way to Ulun Danu temples and bought strawberries, soursop, passion fruits and sapodillas. They were delicious and reasonable in price after we made a little bargaining. The vendors were friendly too and let us try them before we bought! The market has gone a lot quieter these days but I think it is still a nice place to browse and learnt about local fruits and spices etc as it is not as smelly and "wet" as local market . I recently spent an hour or two in the fabric market in Klungkung. It has been there for many years, but rebuilt since my last visit over 20 years ago. It is still mind-blowing. In my last visit to Bali I went to Jalan Sulawesi, the fabric market in Denpasar, but this market is soooo much better, particularly if you are looking for traditional fabrics rather than western-style fabrics. There are also some shops carrying a large range of items that the Balinese use for their religious practice. I couldn't resist a couple of those things too. Artists and craftspeople should not miss this market. I can't wait to go back and take a friend.See more..
This place may be a little hard to find, so I posted pictures of the street. Because you need to go. Apparently they supply many of the local hotels with their bath products. They have a factory/garden in the center of the island where they grow their own products. I have three teen-aged daughters, and we can go through some bath products, let me tell you. Natural products on the cheap?? Sign me up. You'll find incense, perfumes, oils, bath bombs, soaps, shampoos, scrubs, lip balms.... I'm sure there's more but I don't remember. Our favorites were the orange-sugar scrub soap, the clay scrub, the hair mask, and the roll-on perfumes. I dropped a stupid amount of money there, and it was well worth it! I recommend you visit and buy a few things, go back to your room up the road at CANDI BEACH RESORT, figure out which things you love, and then return to empty their stock! ;) I also recommend you stop for ice cream at Mendira House. The gold and silversmith's workshop and store was a very interesting visit. We watched them work silently on delicate jewelry pieces. the process was explained to us in a short 10 minute tour, then we were left alone to browse the store and jewelry display area. I recommend this visit if you want an insight to Balinese tradition. P.S. Silver/goldsmith's techniques are passed down through generations.See more..
