Tham Siew Inn Artist Gallery image
I must declare this my favourite artist and gallery in Melaka. Mr Tham has won awards and accolades and a few pieces of his artwork adorn my walls at home. This visit, I introduced my sister to his work, and she admitted this was the highlight of our 3-day trip to Melaka. His shophouse is a veritable gallery. Mr Tham and his sons will let you roam the 2 level premises. We were fortunate enough to be taken around. We spent an easy 2 hours there and came out inspired and in awe of his talent and how humble he is. I understand he will be holding a solo exhibition in the National Art Gallery in KL in August-September 2020. For those who can go, please go. He will attempt to showcase 70-80 pieces of artwork. For those who can go to Melaka to visit, please give yourself enough time to check out this beautiful gallery. See more..

  12. 4.0 Jonker Street (6.222 reviews)
    - Still as bustling as before!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Jonker Street image
Finally revisited Malacca’s most famous jonker street after not being able to travel here during the pandemic. The streets are still as bustling as before, night markets are still on every friday, sat and sun from 6pm onwards. Food choices are aplenty - from street food to restaurants, you will be so spoilt for choices! Sadly, several good old eateries/restaurants around/nearby jonker street have closed down during the pandemic, but there are still many places where you can try local dishes - highly recommend nyonya cuisine! Tip for those who are driving, roads will be closed from 5:30pm onwards to get ready for the weekend night market. There are nearby parking lots but traffic will be super congested so do try to avoid driving here on those days. See more..

  17. 4.0 Christ Church (1.061 reviews)
    - Landmark Building!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Christ Church image
This is THE landmark building of Malacca! Anyone who visits Malacca must have a photo taken outside this church; otherwise, they can't claim to have visited Malacca! :-) To be honest, I didn't visit inside. Our guide told us the history of the place and we took our photos outside the building. I understand that it is still a working church. Perhaps another time on a return visit I shall have an opportunity to visit inside. We were very fortunate that on the day and time we visited the crowds had not built up yet and were able to take photos outside the church without too many people around! Many guide books tell you to take photos of the "I Love Melaka" sign near the church. Therefore many people were busy taking photos here, clearing the space for us to take pictures of the church instead! (Hurrah!) You should focus on taking photos of this historical building instead! Enjoy your time in Malacca! See more..

  20. 4.0 Cheng Hoon Teng Temple (715 reviews)
    - Beautiful Chinese temple
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Cheng Hoon Teng Temple image
The Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is the oldest functioning Chinese temple in Malaysia and is one that’s lavishly decorated with Chinese sculptures, ceramic sculptures on the roofs, golden paintings on temple doors. This is one of many buildings worth a visit in Malacca. As it was just after Chinese New Year and still within the celebrations period, many of the decorations were still and the Chinese style lanterns made the place even more beautiful. One of my favourite things is a rock garden at the back of the temple feature a limestone sculpture decorated with many Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian figure, centred around the Goddess of Mercy. 22. 4.0 River Walk (610 reviews)
    - Enjoyable estuarine excursion
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    River Walk image
It has been some time that the Melaka River had its clean up started. But if one stays at the newer Melaka Raya area, most of the time is spent shopping and eating there. So it is easy to miss this enjoyable walk. There are shop houses that open their back doors to the river with brightly painted walls and murals to attract attention. The river walkway allows one to walk next to the mangrove trees. Now and then, a hint of the old river banks appear in the shabby squatter constructions still inhabited. We walked from Christ church to Kampung Morten but I'm sure the rest of it would be nice as well. Be warned that several properties adjacent to the river bank are fenced up and you have to exit from the river walk to the main road, in order to get to say, your hotel. Enjoy! See more..

  26. 4.0 Cheng Ho Cultural Museum (258 reviews)
    - Recommend it for anyone interested in history
    Speciality Museums
    Cheng Ho Cultural Museum image
The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is a museum dedicated to the great mariner, Cheng Ho, and famous voyages. Broadly, the museum is divided into a biographical section of the life of Cheng Ho, and the remainder to his voyages. The museum goes into great details about the voyages, the organisation of the ships, the planning and control of the fleet and the legacy left behind by the voyages. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of artefacts, some of which are very high quality. This is probably the best museum in Malacca and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone interested in history. See more..

  29. 4.0 Kampung Morten (172 reviews)
    - Cultural and Heritage Tour of the Village
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Kampung Morten image
Ask at Tourist Information and they will tell you about the free tours available. We did 2, one of which was Kampung Morton which lasted 1.5hrs and starts at 5pm in the village. We had a charming and knowledgeable guide. She took us through the streets and had permission to enter gardens to show us local herbs and produce growing. We were told about the construction of a typical Malay house and was able to go inside a house- pre arranged by the guide with the resident. She showed us a workspace of a local craftsman who makes model houses ( these are not for sale so it’s not a promotional trip trying to part you from your cash) and finally we ended at the local street restaurant who reputedly sells the best Nasi Lemak around. We did tip our guide but this is an interesting tour and represents great value. I can’t find it itemised separately on Trip Advisor but go to the tourist office. See more..
