Malaysia's National Treasure

I must declare this my favourite artist and gallery in Melaka. Mr Tham has won awards and accolades and a few pieces of his artwork adorn my walls at home. This visit, I introduced my sister to his work, and she admitted this was the highlight of our 3-day trip to Melaka. His shophouse is a veritable gallery. Mr Tham and his sons will let you roam the 2 level premises. We were fortunate enough to be taken around. We spent an easy 2 hours there and came out inspired and in awe of his talent and how humble he is. I understand he will be holding a solo exhibition in the National Art Gallery in KL in August-September 2020. For those who can go, please go. He will attempt to showcase 70-80 pieces of artwork. For those who can go to Melaka to visit, please give yourself enough time to check out this beautiful gallery.

    Interesting and delightful
    We visited the gallery because it is recommended in a well known series of travel books. It was a most interesting experience and Mr Tham's work is both varied and delightful. We spent a while talking to Mr Tham's son, and decided to buy a few prints. We went away to make a final decision on which ones. When we returned next day, we were lucky to meet Mr Tham himself who is as delightful as his work, and extraordinarily interesting. We spent a good hour talking to him and he was kind enough to show us his workshop and his many volumes of sketches. His highly evocative prints now adorn our walls, and we couldn't have a better momento of Melaka.

    There is mystery in this gallery of art enter and you will enjoy......
    At first I thought oh a nice fine art gallery. It looked a little conservative from the street. I entered and enjoined the first gallery then I noticed a slim hallway to another gallery so on I went it was the discovery of the third gallery which was my surprise! So beautiful and very different from the first. I will say no more it is up o you to discover. When My friend and I returned to the first gallery we enjoyed it more and had fun placing coins on postcards we wanted of the original art works. These postcards will be wonderful keepsakes of the magic in there, on that day,in that gallery. Doris
