4.0Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head)(263 reviews) - The Head of the Great Wall Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
Stepping in the head of the Great Wall is really magnificent. The beginning starting from the sea is just like a dragon drinking water from the sea. Then it’s body stretches all the way to Gansu (end of Great Wall). A must visit if you are at Tianjin; just 1.5 hours away by speed train. See more..
This is an important and famous section of The Great Wall originally built in 583 AM that played a significant role in the military defense of the Ming Dynasty. Shanhaiguan Pass is located in the small harbor town of Qinhuangdao by the Sea.See more..

4.0Shanhaiguan Gate Tower(106 reviews) - Shanhaiguan Pass. A City Surronuded by The Great Wall. Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Architectural Buildings
Historically this is the place where the gates where opened, following the demise of the Ming Dynasty, to allow the army from the north (Shenyang) to enter and from the Qing Dynasty. well worth the visit. Plenty of wall to walk on here and it's flat with little crowd. See more..
4.0Qinhuangdao Wildlife Park(99 reviews) - see and touch animals close up Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
Lots of animals. Most of them you can feed or touch for a price (10-20Y). For the same price you can take a picture with animals or feed them. Most animals have space to roam around. Drive through or take a train through with places to get off. The animal show was heartbreaking. The coyote and some other animals had broken spirits and hated doing their "tricks". The only ones that seemed to enjoy performing were the dogs. Lots of places to eat (mostly junk food). There is a reasonable restaurant where the rides are. If you like zoos, you will like this place. If you love animals, don't go. Save up and go on safari in Africa. TIP: Your kids will want to feed the animals. Bring veggies (carrots, cucumbers, etc. for the rabbits, kangaroos, etc. and leafy veggies for other animals such as giraffes). Save money and don't buy animal food there. TIP: Go off season when there are fewer people. The animals are still there but less crowds.See more..
4.0Nandaihe Golden Beach(89 reviews) - Beach is golden, but “Plastic” Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Beaches
We spend a weekend close to this beach and although everything is quite beautiful from far away unfortunately the beach is littered with plastic and other rubbish. Could be a nice spot if given a good cleanup. See more..
Lasha is famous for its Potala Temple. However, it is too far away and too up high. So, if you want to get a similar feeling, visit Chengde's Small Potala instead. Chengde is located about 230Km north-east of Beijing. It is a popular one or two day trip destination for expatriates living in Beijing. It still takes 3 1/2 hours to get there from Beijing by car, the express way is under construction. When it is complete, it may take just two hours, I believe. The city of Chengde is worth visiting because many impressive sites are located side by side. My favorites are (1) Small Potala Temple, (2) Imperial Summer Palace, (3) Puning Temple. It took me 5 hours to visit just the above three. Other than those, there are 6 more outside temples, 8 in total. That's why some people stay over there. Again it is not easy to get there, but it is a worth while. See more..
4.0Cangyan Mountain(78 reviews) - Fantastic Scenery at site of last scene in movie"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Mountains • Historic Walking Areas • Religious Sites
We stayed in hotel in central Shijiazhuang, took taxi to the bus station, 8:30 AM bus from the station direct to Cangyan Mountain. The trip took about 1.5 hours approximately. It turned out to be a specifically tourist bus; it had a defined return time of 1:30 PM, which in my opinion was a little rushed (I could have used another 30-60 minutes). On the other hand, it was a very convenient, comfortable bus, direct non-stop route on good roads. We were the only non-Chinese on the bus, which I enjoyed as a cultural experience, and got to practice my Mandarin Chinese language skills. Lots of steps to climb on site, and a cable car which we rode down (you can take it up also). The landscape was very like a traditional Chinese painting, misty, craggy and wonderful; the temples and architecture interesting. I loved it. Something I can now check off my "bucket list". I am so glad I went.See more..
4.5Eight Outer Temples in The Bishu Villa(76 reviews) - Definately worth travelling to visit these superb temples Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Beach & Pool Clubs
The 8 temples are easily reached by taxi from central Chengde - 10 -15mins at most. Entrance fees are a standard 80RmB but the tickets usually cover two or more temples as long as you visit them on the same day. The bigger temples have lots of Chinese tour parties so they can be crowded and noisy. The earlier in the day you visit the better. Allow a morning or afternoon for each temple. When we visited (Oct 2011) two of the smaller temples (Pu Ren & An Yuan temples) were closed for restoration.See more..
4.0Pigeon Nest Park(71 reviews) - Nice Views Wednesday: 3:00 AM - 6:00 PM Parks

Tip : buy the combined ticket for 280yuans (Mountain resort, Potala and Punning Temple) if you're going to visit the main sights. You can add HammerRock the price would be 320yuans if I remember. Really nice temple, dont miss the largest bouddha in a piece of wood (22m), very impressive. Few monks around, and people praying.See more..
4.0Shijiazhuang Zoo(67 reviews) - Worth a trip if you are in SJZ Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Zoos
Zoos in China can be really horrible places, so it was to my surprise to find that the Shijiazhuang Zoo isn't that bad. In terms of the animal care, it does not meet Western standards, but was generally good. As other reviews mention, the park is very large, but there are shuttle services available. I wouldn't call it English friendly, definitely go with someone who speaks Chinese. Family and children friendly for sure, the park is clearly designed for younger audiences in most places. There are restaurants, but as usual for places like this, the food is expensive and not very good, and the facilities are very crowded during lunch time. I would recommend bringing a sack lunch. If you are in Shijiazhuang as a tourist for only a few days, this is probably not something you want to put on your list. However, if you live in the city, it's definitely worth a day trip.See more..
4.5Baili Canyon Resort(66 reviews) - Beautiful Gorge and Waterfalls Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
What a beautiful place to see! We spent a whole morning in the gorge and took many many photos. Numerous waterfalls. Steep narrow cliffs. Spectacularly clean and well kept! It was not crowded and we found ourselves alone at times, even sharing a kiss in the romantic setting between the rock facings. There are trails for both the daring and the squeamish up the mountain side. Well worth the three hour train ride from Beijing.See more..
4.5Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty(64 reviews) - Qing Tombs in Summer, better than Ming tombs Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites • Cemeteries
I went to the Qing tombs with my family in summer 2013 and were lucky enough to be driven there by family in China. While it's quite faraway from the rest of the Beijing sites, it's worth a day's trip to Zunhua to see these tombs. After seeing the site in Beijing I was quite disappointed with the fake and refurbished state of the sites, and the inability to get up and close to the site. The Qing tombs have no been refurbished, but this does not take anything away from its grandness. You are able to get up to the buildings and there is very little people around, allowing you to take your time and not feel rushed by the people around you. The underground sites were amazing, very detailed and beautiful marble carvings. It's cold in there, even in the middle of summer, so do bring something to wear. Better to go to this site than the Ming tombs.See more..
See more..

4.0Shijiazhuang Plant Garden(61 reviews) - 风乎是植物,没什么特别的 Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
It was a lovely tour with a very learned tour guide. However the tourists were all over the place and a few "strays" came to join our group and listened to the tour guide. Those in my group who do not understand Mandarin took a back seat and walked quietly with the group. The museum is a must - see tourist spot, even without a tour-guide.See more..

4.5Wanlong Ski Area(48 reviews) - Great skiing, a lot of fun! Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Ski & Snowboard Areas
It’s been a while since we’ve been skiing, but this place didn’t disappoint. The manufactured snow wasn’t too bad & this time of year it wasn’t very crowded. The rental equipment was in good condition. There is a limited amount of English spoken, but we were able to get by with a few English speaking employees & the trusty translate app. My 12 year old son had a 2 hour lesson with an English instructor that was great!! There seem to be a lot more intermediate & advanced runs here, but there’s one long green that was nice. See more..
4.0Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall(41 reviews) - "Of historical significance for the folks of Tangshan" Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM History Museums
I found this Memorial Hall to be an informative site that helped me better understand Tangshan and what the people had endured years before. When disaster strikes the character of the people is at stake and what I discovered was the people of Tangshan are strong and throughout my visit in Tangshan people would often share stories from what they personally experienced and how this disaster helped shape the Tangshan city of today. I had my passport with me so I had no issue with entrance.See more..
4.0Bailin Temple(40 reviews) - If you are around Shijiazhuang, this is the top cultural attraction Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Religious Sites

4.0Bashang Prairie of Zhangbei(38 reviews) - Amazing views from zhangbei Prairie Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Geologic Formations
Highly recommend to do a day trip if you are around the area . Awesome views throughout the whole 6 hours of roundabout drive. We have covered many areas and fortunately traffic was light and we had encountered good weather with slight showers towards the evening. As all the road signs are in Chinese , so it's not easy for me to translate. One last note, avoid weekends and holidays , visit the prairie only during off peaks and get a professional camera instead to capture the breathtaking views and enjoy the fresh air .See more..
4.0Government Department(35 reviews) - Cool slice of history. Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites
As one that knows very little of Chinese history, this was a very enjoyable stop on our journey. We hired a guide that really explained all the history to us. She only spoke Chinese, so one of the guys with us did the translating. There are some interpretive signs, but they don't go into the depth that the guide did. This place is in a busy district with lots of shopping. After visiting the Government grounds, we walked around the town and took in the hustle and bustle.See more..
4.5Great Wall Museum(35 reviews) - Very informative Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums
A definite must visit if you are interested in the history of the Great Wall! It's free and visit it only after you went to the First Pass Under Heaven as you will not be able to get into the First Pass Under Heaven after you exited. From there you can follow the road out and take a taxi or those small 3-wheeled electric car (taxi could be rare so this car, although slower makes a good alternative! and I paid only 10RMB to get to Laolongtou) to Laolongtou See more..

4.5Longxing Temple(33 reviews) - Marvelous!! A must visit in Zhengding Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
The monastery was originally built in the Sui Dynasty (586 AD). Most of the present buildings were reconstructed during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD). Other than beautiful architectures, there are lots of valuable artworks. For example, a 22-meter bronze statue of Thousand Hands Guan Yin, a colorful wooden carving of Guan Yin sitting in a grotto, statues of bronze Buddha, and historical stone tablets. What a marvelous historical spot!! It is a must visit for architecture researchers, religious art lovers, artist, and history buffs.See more..
If the ski lift is closed, as it was when I visited, don't let this put you off! A hike from Puling Si (Puling Temple) to Hammer Rock, and then back down the path near the chairlift to Anyuan Temple will take around two hours. I wasn't sure if I could be bothered to do this, but I am glad I did. The rock is very impressive, as are the paths and views. The drop from Hammer Rock is quite scary mind! To find the correct path down from the chairlift, you need to exit the scenic area spinning gate and walk towards the chairlift station. Just before a raised pagoda and before the chairlift, turn away from Chengde. The path heads down away from Chengde down concrete steps. After a while it reaches a road and does a u-turn back towards Chengde town.See more..
4.5Congtai Park(32 reviews) - Another great Handan Park... Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Parks

4.5Western Qing Tombs(32 reviews) - Huge Complex of multiple Qing Dynasty Tombs Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Ancient Ruins • Cemeteries
The Western Qing tombs received far fewer visitors than the Eastern Qing tombs or the Ming Tombs. The tomb site itself is huge, and a driver is needed to go between the different tombs. Tai Ling tomb is the biggest and most impressive tombs, with a processional avenue over a mile longs. Chang Ling tomb has an impressive echo wall, where anything you say is bounced back seven times. Much of Chang Ling tomb was closed, but this meant the the whole place was abandoned. It was great to get photos of huge marble statues, bridges and processional roads without a single individual in sight. Chong Ling tomb has an impressive underground vault with huge carved doors. You can still see the holes were treasure hunters and tomb robbers broke their way in. Mu Ling tomb is small, and was being repaired when I visited. Yong fu temple is a scenic change to the numerous tombs.See more..

4.5Nanhu Garden(29 reviews) - South Lake Park Parks
This is a major receration and ecologicalparkland in Tangshan. It is one of the largest artifical lakes in Asia, formed in part by flooded coalmines. It is well worth a visit if you like peaceful walks and plants. Many local people go there and are friendly to foreigners. It is too big to walk around, so exploring small parts on foot, or using bicycles may be options. South Lake Park is actually several lakes, and a main road seperating the main parts. There is a hill in the south of the northern part, worth a climb for the view.See more..

4.5Dajing Gate(26 reviews) - Wonderful Great Wall Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
It was a cool day to visit this lovely Gate and its surrounding. Walking around the place was good exercise for every one after a long private coach ride. You can even get a ride on a horse!!The sun was just ride as we enjoyed watching locals and tourists enjoying themselves taking photographs in front of the gate while others started to climb the hill from behind the wall. The souvenir shop is rather small. I would have loved to see more items to buy and bring home for friends and relatives. The guy in charge was extremely friendly, though non English speaking. The icecream sticks were delicious!! I would like to come back and visit in the near future.See more..
4.0Strange House(25 reviews) - Interesting, Different Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Parks
This attraction is made for kids-6-12 years old. May not be safe for younger kids and older kids will think it's juvenile. The park has lots of interesting things to see-a long slide, swings, water games, etc. the house is mostly stuff like windows set sideways, mirrors, strange passageways, etc. Worth a trip if you are already in Qinhunagdao. Cost is 25Y in season. There is a very interesting Russian church next door. Not a good place for wheelchairs or strollers.See more..
