This is an important and famous section of The Great Wall originally built in 583 AM that played a significant role in the military defense of the Ming Dynasty. Shanhaiguan Pass is located in the small harbor town of Qinhuangdao by the Sea.See more..
It was a lovely tour with a very learned tour guide. However the tourists were all over the place and a few "strays" came to join our group and listened to the tour guide. Those in my group who do not understand Mandarin took a back seat and walked quietly with the group. The museum is a must - see tourist spot, even without a tour-guide.See more..

4.5Great Wall Museum(35 reviews) - Very informative Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Speciality Museums
A definite must visit if you are interested in the history of the Great Wall! It's free and visit it only after you went to the First Pass Under Heaven as you will not be able to get into the First Pass Under Heaven after you exited. From there you can follow the road out and take a taxi or those small 3-wheeled electric car (taxi could be rare so this car, although slower makes a good alternative! and I paid only 10RMB to get to Laolongtou) to Laolongtou See more..

This is a spectacular museum with many exiting exhibitions. You get lots of insight of Chinese culture and a good understanding of Chinese history. A good suggestion is to ask for a personal guide to get the full insight of the items on display.See more..
4.0Handan Museum(10 reviews) - Very Nice City Museum in Handan Thursday: 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
Handan is not a city many tourists visit, but if you happen to go there, the city museum is well worth your time. The provincial museum in Shijiazhuang, of course, is better, but this one has some pretty good artifacts. Handan was the capital of the State of Zhao in the Warring States, and also the home of Cizhou Porcelain, so it has the best collections of those artifacts in China. Also an ancient coin gallery and a pretty good collection of Buddhist sculptures. The grottoes at Xiangtangshan are about a half hour (by taxi) west of Handan, and quite interesting in their own right. Full disclosure: I'm not a "normal" tourist. I'm a professor of Chinese history who photographs Asian museums (about 100 so far) in their entirety and makes my photos available for free on my GaryLeeTodd.com website to scholars, teachers, and anyone interested in history. So I am more enthusiastic than most people about museums. Since all museums in China, except the National in Beijing, are local in nature, you must visit every province if you want to get the history of each region. China has seriously upgraded all their museums in the last five years, so that nearly every major city with any sort of history will have a good, modern history museum, like that at Handan. The one downside is that Handan, like most of Hebei, is fairly dingy and polluted.See more..

5.0Ceramics Exhibition Hall(1 review) - A window to see the capital of ceramics in China Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums I admire the person who came up with the idea of establishing the Ceramics Exhibition Hall years ago. This was a rare opportunity for me to have a guided tour in it to know how wonderful the ceramics products are and how talented the artists were. Surprised to see few visitors. Perhaps an annual city ceramics festival might help the hall better known to the communities and attract more tourists. See more..
