Great Wall Museum, Hebei, China

Very informative

A definite must visit if you are interested in the history of the Great Wall! It's free and visit it only after you went to the First Pass Under Heaven as you will not be able to get into the First Pass Under Heaven after you exited. From there you can follow the road out and take a taxi or those small 3-wheeled electric car (taxi could be rare so this car, although slower makes a good alternative! and I paid only 10RMB to get to Laolongtou) to Laolongtou

    Enjoyable museum, and Free!
Well, if you are in already in the walled city area, it is near the "1st Pass Under Heaven" gate. It's free, so why not stop in. To get a ticket, just show your passport and head on in. It is well laid out, with plenty of English descriptions. It tells the story of how there have been many great walls over time, with pictures showing how the look today (many not good!). Artifacts from the wall can also be found here, along with construction techniques and the historical significance of the wall to China's culture. Even if you aren't a huge museum person, or that interested in the wall, it's free and can be a quick 10 minute walk through or 1 hour in depth study.

    Good Explanation of Great Wall
I have visited several sections of the Great Wall and I have to say that this museum gave me the best explanation of the Great Wall construction, locations, and history. It is a small museum, but well-organized and maintained. If you are already in the area, it is a good stop for an hour or so
