The Western Qing tombs received far fewer visitors than the Eastern Qing tombs or the Ming Tombs. The tomb site itself is huge, and a driver is needed to go between the different tombs. Tai Ling tomb is the biggest and most impressive tombs, with a processional avenue over a mile longs. Chang Ling tomb has an impressive echo wall, where anything you say is bounced back seven times. Much of Chang Ling tomb was closed, but this meant the the whole place was abandoned. It was great to get photos of huge marble statues, bridges and processional roads without a single individual in sight. Chong Ling tomb has an impressive underground vault with huge carved doors. You can still see the holes were treasure hunters and tomb robbers broke their way in. Mu Ling tomb is small, and was being repaired when I visited. Yong fu temple is a scenic change to the numerous tombs. See more..

I am still surprised that this place has no advertisements at all. I found it to be the highlight of my tour/trip to Xi'an (it was actually an addition to my tour of visiting the terra-cotta warriors and the city wall of Xi'an). Being fairly close to the airport made it easy to access before my return flight to Beijing. My tour guide and me arrived right before closing and had the whole museum to ourselves. When I first entered the underground museum I was just in awe. Right under my feet were gazillions of small statues - I kneeled down to take pictures through the glass floor. The detail of each small statue was just mind blowing and it raised the question of how long were people working on creating and recreating those pieces of art. I am glad I was able to see this amazing place - which turned out to be the highlight of my day. Thank you Lilly Wang! See more..

去喜峰口长城完全是因为《鬼子来了》片子中景象印象深刻所以才去的，到了潘家口水库才知道一定要坐快艇才能去喜峰口长城，呵呵……而且快艇还坐了很长时间，结果在喜峰口只停留了十多分钟就回了，因为船家只肯停那么久而且姜文村也确实没什么可看的。一路上风景确实很美，有山有水有长城，只是长城大都破败塌陷了，没看到长城象龙一样盘居在水里山上的景色，有点可惜。值得称赞的是那儿还没有旅游团，一切还是原生态的。看到许多独立的小岛上有帐蓬和钓鱼的人，很是羡慕啊~~~ See more..

Wahuang palace is really a huge architectural complex that includes a large park with beautiful lakes (including Sky-Mending lake), multiple temples, art work, a huge statue of Nuwa Goddess (people come to her to ask for children), and of course the beautiful ancient palace on the top of the mountain (it takes a bit of work to climb up there - so if you are traveling in the summer, get there early and bring water). The view from the top of the mountain is really breathtaking! And the palace is so interesting - there are caves with ancient statues, locks for the kids who were born thanks to the Goddess; you have a chance to get some luck by aiming at one of the small bells with a coin, etc. There are restrooms on the top of the mountain. And the last stop to get food&drinks is once you pass the sculpture of the Goddess, before you start your way up to the Palace. There we had an unusual dish - it is like a cold starch soup (tapioca-like) that doesn't have much flavor on its own, but the foodcart lady adds a whole bunch of spices to it so it was not bad at all - definitely worth trying. This Mausoleum is in fact part of the Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty. Visitors can only have sight of the prayer pavilion and the main ancestral hall but not the underground tomb. Although the shuttle bus stops right outside the mausoleum, since it's far from the more popular cluster of tombs (namely, those of Emperor Qianlong, royal concubines and Empress Cixi) that the tour groups patronises, the Yu Mausoleum hence being seen with wear and tear all over the complex, and no sight of visitors. If you failed to get a composite entrance ticket at the more popular tombs, you would not be able to gain access here - as there is not even a ticket office. May worth a visit if time allows. This Mausoleum is in fact part of the Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty. It's within walking distance from the more popular tombs of Emperor Qianlong and royal concubines which the tour groups patronises. There is a small exhibition hall displaying the belongings of Empress (e.g. her ceremonial gown, comb and jewelries) and her relationship with the tragic fall of Qing Dynasty. The underground tomb and the prayer pavilion is well maintained, with very clear signages. The small pagoda inside her Mausoleum shows the nice architecture in Late Qing Dynasty. I visited city for business asked locals to take me to this tomb. They reported the tomb had been looted over the centuries and the structure was collapsing. Xuanhua was a huge ancient city, and part of the city walls remain. The southern city gate costs 5RMB to enter, and gives good views of the bell tower. The restored city wall is free to enter. Both are closed from 12 - 2pm. The restored city wall is over 2 km long, and is being restored as far as the eye can see north. Other ruined sections of city wall can be seen the southern park and the east of the city. Nearby attractions include the Liao Dynasty tomb, city towers, and Jimingyi Walled town. I paid a taxi to all of the above on a day trip from Beijing. From wikipedia - Historically, Xuanhua has been the "Gateway to Beijing," a city with a large garrison that was close enough to the capital to be strategically vital. This site is very hard to find and the actual tomb was covered with long grass. The little hut on the side housed the engraved stone. Can't really see the writing for there are writings on it. We are the only few people visiting this site and usually people who knew about this character will visit this place. Lanlingwang （541-573AD）was very loyal to his brother the late Northern Qi Emperor however his big success and capability made the late emperor jealous and insecure about his throne and put him to death. 三国志の劉備は、この墓の主・劉勝の後裔であるとかないとか・・
アクセスは保定駅前からの市バス（10路区間）で満城未央広場まで、3元、約50分所要でした。

The Great Wall at Dongjiakou is not for everyone. There is an initial one to two mile hike, sometimes steep to reach the wall. Those with difficulty walking will only be able to view it from the bottom. This section of the Great Wall is about 50 kilometers from the town of Qinhuangdao. You will need an in the know Chinese driver and or guide to find this location. Whether it is worth it to you to take an entire day or two to walk on a rugged and only sparsely restored part of the Wall is a personal decision you must make. For me and the few friends who accompanied me, this was a GREAT side trip to an area we know is authentic and original. We loved it. The hike in and climb to the wall can be done at a leisurely pace, so those who are a bit older, but able to walk and step up about 8 to 12" at a time will be able to make the climb. Take some snacks and water along. Not many places to eat, but as always your guide will be able to find some kind of restaurant in town, you just might not want to eat there. Again this depends on how adventurous you are in your eating habits. If you are picky or fastidious be sure and bring lots of snacks along with you. Enjoy! See more..
