    This is a little geological gem in the German Ore mountains almost on the border with the Czech republic. An old quarry has cut through the core of an extinct volcano. Beautiful and interesting hexagonal basalt columns are visible from the core of the volcano in a fan shape, but also horizontal lying columns. The location is very nice on top of a ridge with a nice view. Next to Hirtstein is a small restaurant/pension where you can have a nice ice-cream of have a coffee brake. See more..
